On the 520 homicides we had last year in Canada, 120 happened in Toronto, 75 I think in Montreal and around 70 in WongCouver. That's a lot in my book. Add to this asian gangs, manslaughter and attempt to murder and you get a pretty nasty picture of this city...

That is not correct we average about 60 murders per year in Toronto it has been that way for a number of years. Not saying that is a great thing but the average large US city does our murder rate in about a month.

You need one more than anyone else on this board. You're a woman. That makes you a high value target and one with very little defense.

No one is going to try and rape me, and if they want my money or my posessions I could give them a few combos to make them think twice, or I could even run (I am very very fast). Also, of all the women I've dated, maybe only one of them would make me sweat if she came charging at me, even with a knife.

You have none of those advantages. And I don't care how fast you think you can run, a male criminal will out run you. And guys are a lot more likely to get ugly on a night gone bad and do some real damage.

Concealed carry permits were created with women in mind.

you have a good point, however, you need to keep one thing in mind. if someone is unwilling or afraid to use it, that makes their situation 10x worse. lets say a woman's husband convinced her to carry for her own protection. she's walking down the street, she gets attacked. she pulls out the gun, but her attacker can tell that she's so unsure of herself and too afraid to use it. what happens next? the attacker now has it in hand. what was to be a mugging and possibly a rape has now turned into a definite rape and possible homicide.

this is not true of all women that choose to conceal carry. i'm sure there's plenty out there that can outshoot me and are more willing to use their guns than i am. but guns should not be left in the hands of those that are afraid of them or who are unwilling to use them (and, of course, those that have not been trained to use them.).

nobody ever broke into my house, and i dont even lock the doors.
if they did so damn well be it. its not a big deal. people dont go sneak into strangers homes to go and murder a stranger for the heck of it. much easier to pick a stranger up elsewhere if your that psycho. and the stealing of some possessions, usually not even THAT expensive, unless you have bad product placement or some shit, because most things expensive are too big to bring.

not by far worth worrying too much about... if you like to have a gun because you like to shoot targets thats cool. but all this fear-filled home defence BS is tiring. one of these days you guys are going to need tanks to defend your home with. some of the guns people claim to need for self defence will do far more damage when fired inside than even the most talented vandal burglar will.

The city of Toronto had 90 homicides in 2002 (182 for Ontario). That's 12 more than 2001. For this year it was near 120 for the grand Toronto area including 16 gang related murders...

I live in a suburb of Atlanta and we see that kind of action on the Atl news pretty frequently. Usually its a robbery gone wrong. In America there are a lot of guns and criminals are heavily armed.

Having a gun in your house in America for home defense is not BS, its a legitimate consideration. Maybe in your county an intruder wont be carrying a gun but its a damn good chance that he will be packing in our country. That's the way it is here. I dont like it either but that's our reality.
