well, i'm sure you know that each person reacts differently with these compounds. my brother was given Effexor because of nagging headaches. i was given Effexor for anxiety, along with xanax. try to get the xanax kicker if you can. some of these meds are like being on speed, the lexapro i take now is like that. i can be up 19-20 hours a day, if not for the xanannies. but, give it a shot, it may help...JKurz1 said:anxiety...not taking it, but have some that they want me to take....want to see how others reacted
unfortunately, you are correct. the doctors give me anti-D's for anxiety, and i get yo-yo'ed, having to rebound from xanax withdrawals because they don't want me to become addicted. well, i am addicted! and it beats the hell out of having panic attacks while driving down the expressway. so let me have my 1mg of xanax a day....solidspine said:The only substance that minimizes controls anxiety, if you have any kind of internal imbalance. Is Xanax.
The other 95 substances on the market are M&M’s
Sorry
It’s not the end of the world.
Every pharmaceutical company is trying to combine anti depression & anxiety meds, nice try, just does not work.
If you’re depressed, Prozac works over
For anxiety Xanax
For both, take both pills,
The other med that works great for me, but has side’s affects is Jack Daniels,
Every time I drink I end up in jail or prison, so take xanax and prozac instead.

HumanTarget said:i'll have you kow that xanax if infinitely stronger than valium. that's the problem with xanax, there is no "help me get off xanax" drug. except more xanax. or less & less until you're weened. but fick that. xanax might keep me alive longer. i'm a walking bomb.
JKurz1 said:One thing it cant POSSIBLY do and people keep saying it, is make you gain weight!!!!!!!!!1 IMPOSSIBLE!!!
If person A ate 4000 calories a day and never gained a pound
then started Effx and ate the exact same.....nothing changed....weight gain wil not happen....its self control...sure it may make you hungry....but thats all

like i said, it's all trial and error. what works wonders for you may be a curse for others.BigBlu said:I've been on Effexor XR for 10 years. It literally saved my life. I've been depressed as long as I can remember. Don't worry about the stigma and stories of doom about this drug. Sometimes we need a crutch in life and it's not a weakness.
In terms of side effects I experience some insomnia but that is remedied with Remeron 15mg. Effexor does decrease your libido, but Remeron alleviates this problem. I have gained some weight over the years but I would say it more from the AAS than the Effexor.
If you're depressed or anxious this is a great drug. In my case I will be on it for life so I'm not concerned about withdrawal issues. Do what you need to do to do to be functional, happy and productive.
Feel free to ask me for advice or recommendations as I've tried a huge range of psychotropic drugs.
short term SNRI's? those are life meds. and it takes weeks to become active.Skallagrimson said:effexor will fuck you up. It will most likely raise your blood pressure and WILL cause painful and sickening withdrawls if you are on it for any length of time. consider therapy or anything else and only effexor as a (short term) last resort.
I have seen data that show Effexor to pretty much have the highest effectiveness rating compared to other anti-d's... in SEROIUS depression.mammalspod said:Effexor is not an SSRI but rather a noreprinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It is very strong and doesn't last in the system very long. I don't know why this is such a prescribed drug. If you do a little research you'll find that its much more invasive than other antidepressants. Some doctors refute its effectiveness totally. Most people take it after other antidpressants don't work for them (usually SSRI's). Antidepressants are only effective in treating anxiety if it is caused by a depression-related syndrome. The reason they are so widely prescribed for anxiety is that they are presumed to be the safest option (doctors covering their asses). Also, xanax is not the only drug which directly counteracts anxiety, it is part of a large group of meds known as benzodiazepines which all have similar actions. Many antidepressants REDUCE LEAN MUSCLE MASS AND INCREASE FAT. Your best bet if you care about training is to just not take any antidepressants or sedatives (like xanax). Effexor in generall makes people feel downright weird and dizzy. I'm convinced this will not be a very prescribed drug in 5-10 years.
Lexapro is just as bad coming off of.rocksolid215 said:Effexor is a BITCH to come off of. I had to leave work it was so bad. And I was tapering down from only 150mg/day. For the record it only hits norepinephrine at around 300mg. It's just marketed that way. Ask about Lexpro or go with the real tried and true and look into zoloft.
Just my two cents

C3bodybuilding said:A creed is right, discuss these matters with your doctor. If your doctor prescribed effexor he probably did with good reason. Everyone reacts differently to these meds. Some work great for one person while for someone else they do nothing. Try it for 3-6 weeks and find out. Keep follow ups with your doc so he can monitor your progress and decide if you need to lower or up your dose or even change your medication.
If you have panic attacks you may still need another medicine to help control that until you learn how to do so on your own. Most of these medicines should be used short term while using other methods of therapy. A combination of things is usually the best way to attack any type of anxiety or depression. There are a few who may need meds for long term or life.
Don't feel nervous to talk to your doctor or therapist. And don't feel afraid to voice any concerns. Taking medication doesn't mean anything is wrong with you, it just means you are taking steps to get better. Good luck.
Oh and one more thing, one side effect I noticed in all of the different meds I've tried is the ability to last for hours in the bedroom. It can be annoying at times but nothing you can't live with.
they automatically prescribe me generic equivalents. it's protocol for HAP. i fucking hate this system.a creed said:My bad - I meant to say I was on "Zoloft", not Welbutrin.
I pay $10 with insurance for a month's worth - without insurance it was $220.
It's a DISCRACE what these companies charge for meds.
