I tried it for anxiety... OMG NEVER AGAIN!

Work night shifts, so took it @ 3pm when i woke up, by 5-6pm felt soo nausious (dry mouth, felt like dry reaching but just didn't) and it didn't stop!

By 6am the next morning, i was still awake (for work) and it was the worst day of my life... I think i know how pregnant females feel (sorry, no kidding, felt like throwing up but just couldn't).

Well, i have a whole pack minus one... never again.

Other sides;
* serious withdrawals of dizyness and nausia
* constipation (the weight gain)

All BAD! Stay away from effexor

well, i'm sure you know that each person reacts differently with these compounds. my brother was given Effexor because of nagging headaches. i was given Effexor for anxiety, along with xanax. try to get the xanax kicker if you can. some of these meds are like being on speed, the lexapro i take now is like that. i can be up 19-20 hours a day, if not for the xanannies. but, give it a shot, it may help...

The only substance that minimizes controls anxiety, if you have any kind of internal imbalance. Is Xanax.

The other 95 substances on the market are M&M’s

Sorry

It’s not the end of the world.

Every pharmaceutical company is trying to combine anti depression & anxiety meds, nice try, just does not work.

If you’re depressed, Prozac works over
For anxiety Xanax

For both, take both pills,

The other med that works great for me, but has side’s affects is Jack Daniels,
Every time I drink I end up in jail or prison, so take xanax and prozac instead.

Have you ever heard of people snorting this shit for a buzz? My doc said that is why it's under such lock down.....scary shit....it was that and vicodine snorting....very bizzare to me.

unfortunately, you are correct. the doctors give me anti-D's for anxiety, and i get yo-yo'ed, having to rebound from xanax withdrawals because they don't want me to become addicted. well, i am addicted! and it beats the hell out of having panic attacks while driving down the expressway. so let me have my 1mg of xanax a day....

Yeah i've taken Xanax, kinda knocked me around (felt sluggish but good, people commented i was slower speeched etc), although here in aussie, doctors just won't perscribe xanax, and go for SSRI's instead...

Valium, Xanax... i'll take one of them any day, but these SSRI's are a no-no! More trouble than their worth (just my 2 cents).

DONT start it!! If they have something else, try that. I was on it for 8 mo. Gained 15 lbs. Made my depression worse. The scariest part was coming off of it. Even though they gradually decrease the dose, I (and a great many others), experienced horrific side effects. Check out some of the depression forums. If your main worry is weight gain, it is known for that. There are many other anti-anxiety pills and combos out there. Adivan is a good one, its mild with few side effects. DONT try effexor! Yeeks!

it's a crazy anti d to be on bro. You have to taper on to it and then taper off. Some say it's worse than coming off of heroine when you've been on it for a while. If I were you, i'd go with lexapro or wellbutrin. They help your depression without making you lose your boner. Also, my wife took effexor for a while and it was hell for her. She would have terrible symptoms, nausia and even get sick just by drinking a coke! If you are self medicating yourself, STOP and go see a doctor. You should be taking an anti-anxiety medicine like xanax or valium (addictive tho) but you should be doing it under a doctors care..

I was given Klonopin. I havent used them and probly wont. Lots of bad feedback on these types of meds.

i'll have you kow that xanax if infinitely stronger than valium. that's the problem with xanax, there is no "help me get off xanax" drug. except more xanax. or less & less until you're weened. but fick that. xanax might keep me alive longer. i'm a walking bomb.

Don't know about Xanax, but effexor can be great if it is the right drug for your problem, but with some serious sides, ie withdrawl, I have had bad bad reactions to other drugs and no reaction to other drugs, effexor helps me more that I would have believed possible and I know I have a physical illness not a psychological one. Good luck, research this even more carefully than roids!

One thing it cant POSSIBLY do and people keep saying it, is make you gain weight!!!!!!!!!1 IMPOSSIBLE!!!

If person A ate 4000 calories a day and never gained a pound

then started Effx and ate the exact same.....nothing changed....weight gain wil not happen....its self control...sure it may make you hungry....but thats all

I'm sorry but thats untrue.

It affects your metabolism, and makes you costipated... A slower metabolism and constantly backed up means weight gain.

Of course not EVERYONE gains weight, but a good proportion do... and the nausia can either make you eat more, or eat less... so either gain or loose. But gain is more likely.

I took it... killed my dick... I switched to Celexa.... works great..

I've been on Effexor XR for 10 years. It literally saved my life. I've been depressed as long as I can remember. Don't worry about the stigma and stories of doom about this drug. Sometimes we need a crutch in life and it's not a weakness.

In terms of side effects I experience some insomnia but that is remedied with Remeron 15mg. Effexor does decrease your libido, but Remeron alleviates this problem. I have gained some weight over the years but I would say it more from the AAS than the Effexor.

If you're depressed or anxious this is a great drug. In my case I will be on it for life so I'm not concerned about withdrawal issues. Do what you need to do to do to be functional, happy and productive.

Feel free to ask me for advice or recommendations as I've tried a huge range of psychotropic drugs.

like i said, it's all trial and error. what works wonders for you may be a curse for others.

effexor will fuck you up. It will most likely raise your blood pressure and WILL cause painful and sickening withdrawls if you are on it for any length of time. consider therapy or anything else and only effexor as a (short term) last resort.

short term SNRI's? those are life meds. and it takes weeks to become active.

Effexor is not an SSRI but rather a noreprinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It is very strong and doesn't last in the system very long. I don't know why this is such a prescribed drug. If you do a little research you'll find that its much more invasive than other antidepressants. Some doctors refute its effectiveness totally. Most people take it after other antidpressants don't work for them (usually SSRI's). Antidepressants are only effective in treating anxiety if it is caused by a depression-related syndrome. The reason they are so widely prescribed for anxiety is that they are presumed to be the safest option (doctors covering their asses). Also, xanax is not the only drug which directly counteracts anxiety, it is part of a large group of meds known as benzodiazepines which all have similar actions. Many antidepressants REDUCE LEAN MUSCLE MASS AND INCREASE FAT. Your best bet if you care about training is to just not take any antidepressants or sedatives (like xanax). Effexor in generall makes people feel downright weird and dizzy. I'm convinced this will not be a very prescribed drug in 5-10 years.

I have seen data that show Effexor to pretty much have the highest effectiveness rating compared to other anti-d's... in SEROIUS depression.

Effexor also is not just a norepinephrine reutake inhibitor. First it ihibits serotonin reuptake, then at 150mg or so NE, and finally some effect on dopamine in higher doses.

I'm with BigBlu, this drug saved my life. It's not for everyone. You may have to try several before you find one that works for you. I use it mainly for panic syndrome. It just plain works. Sure, benzo's work immediately and are a nice drug but you NEVER want to become addicted to them. Benzo withdrawal can kill you in worst case scenario, and you will feel like you are in hell. In no way can SSRI or SNRI withdrawal be compared to Benzo withdrawal IMO.

Unfortunately I have been taking anti-anxiety and depression medications for about 15 years.

I have also taken just about every med on the market, either prescribed by my shrink, or in a clinical trial at the university.

State intuitions in California (prisons & jails) will not give you Xanax, I don’t know why, I was told they believe you can get high on Xanax----go figure, as if I can’t get meth or smack in jail.

Did 90 days a little over a year ago, knew I was going in, so cut my Xanax drastically for three months prior, and did my time. Without Xanax.

So yes it is addictive but you can get off it with out going to some silly out patient clinic that charges $45,000 for three weeks.

Effexor is a BITCH to come off of. I had to leave work it was so bad. And I was tapering down from only 150mg/day. For the record it only hits norepinephrine at around 300mg. It's just marketed that way. Ask about Lexpro or go with the real tried and true and look into zoloft.

Just my two cents

Lexapro is just as bad coming off of.

Snorting SSRI's in just plain ignorant.

SSRI's taken orally, (or however), take at least 2-4 weeks to work. You don't get a quick "buzz" off them.

I'm on Welbutrin and it's changed my life.

The only way to solve an anxiety issue is to talk with your Doctor/Shrink

Don't waste your time here, with all the speculation you'll find in responses here.

A creed is right, discuss these matters with your doctor. If your doctor prescribed effexor he probably did with good reason. Everyone reacts differently to these meds. Some work great for one person while for someone else they do nothing. Try it for 3-6 weeks and find out. Keep follow ups with your doc so he can monitor your progress and decide if you need to lower or up your dose or even change your medication.

If you have panic attacks you may still need another medicine to help control that until you learn how to do so on your own. Most of these medicines should be used short term while using other methods of therapy. A combination of things is usually the best way to attack any type of anxiety or depression. There are a few who may need meds for long term or life.

Don't feel nervous to talk to your doctor or therapist. And don't feel afraid to voice any concerns. Taking medication doesn't mean anything is wrong with you, it just means you are taking steps to get better. Good luck.

Oh and one more thing, one side effect I noticed in all of the different meds I've tried is the ability to last for hours in the bedroom. It can be annoying at times but nothing you can't live with.

EFFEXOR IS A BEAST TO COME OFF, BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE

BUT BUT BUT

IT HAS MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE TO MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER!!!!!!!

SO TREAT THIS THING WITH GREAT CAUTION, AND IF IT SUITS YOUR PARTICULAR BRAIN CHEMISTRY IT WILL DO WONDERS.

effexor is as expensive as fucking coke, too. wtf? almost 200.00 if ya gots no insurance...

My bad - I meant to say I was on "Zoloft", not Welbutrin.

I pay $10 with insurance for a month's worth - without insurance it was $220.

It's a DISCRACE what these companies charge for meds.

yes my best friend has used it with success for years now to avoid panic attacks. he is 6 foot 205 single digit year round benches 475. also is from where you are jkurz. he is a freak never eats just smokes cigs and drinks coffee. he also runs winny year round at 50mg eod and refuses to come on ef. you ohio guys are fuckin stubborn, just kidding bro. his father is a doctor and prescribes the effexor i know he sees no sides as far as dizziness or being tired. he had a serious painkiller addiction so he stays away from benzos as they are addicting.

Nice fukin back bro!

i have quite a bit of experience with anti-anxiety/anti-depressants. I have had depression/anxiety since I was 18 or 19. Been off and on tons of medications, doctors toyed with my dosages for years and years. Ive tried prozac, paxil, lexapro, effexor, imipramine, remeron, buspirone and am currently on Zoloft @ 100mg ED. I have to say the withdrawls from most of these medications is absolute hell. All of them had some sort of side effects and some people are more prone to them than others. I currently use between 1-3mg of xanax per day to control anxiety and the zoloft for depression. My doc switches me to klonopin once every blue moon since it is longer acting and supposedly less addictive - who really knows. For probably the first 2 months on zoloft I felt worse. Anxious, gastro intestinal problems, sweating, insomnia, etc. Once my body got use to the medication those side effects went away. The only real side effect now is loss of libido but Agguys help me out with that :) If you have any questions about SSRI's or the older trycyclic antidepressants just shoot me an email [email protected]. Like I said I've pretty much been through hell and back with these medications but zoloft seems to be the best for me.

i also have taken a host of medicines due to insomnia since the age of 8 and severe migraines caused by anxiety and stress. i have taken lamictal, remeron, xanax, ativan, klonopin, you name it ive tried it. personally for me remeron and lamictal are the most effective they are both non addictive and remeron makes me sleep like a baby, lamictal helps with stress which is really what my anxiety is from, i get real worried i am not going to be able to accomplish things in time and i get really fucking angry. that is when i take klonopins. effexor is great but its more for panic attack type anxiety which i do not have
