SOme say it cause fat gain. I know damn well it doesnt decrease metabolism so I am thinking this means they just ate more???? gimme some light

I've been on Effexor XR for 10 years. It literally saved my life. I've been depressed as long as I can remember. Don't worry about the stigma and stories of doom about this drug. Sometimes we need a crutch in life and it's not a weakness.

In terms of side effects I experience some insomnia but that is remedied with Remeron 15mg. Effexor does decrease your libido, but Remeron alleviates this problem. I have gained some weight over the years but I would say it more from the AAS than the Effexor.

If you're depressed or anxious this is a great drug. In my case I will be on it for life so I'm not concerned about withdrawal issues. Do what you need to do to do to be functional, happy and productive.

Feel free to ask me for advice or recommendations as I've tried a huge range of psychotropic drugs.

like i said, it's all trial and error. what works wonders for you may be a curse for others.

effexor will fuck you up. It will most likely raise your blood pressure and WILL cause painful and sickening withdrawls if you are on it for any length of time. consider therapy or anything else and only effexor as a (short term) last resort.

short term SNRI's? those are life meds. and it takes weeks to become active.

Effexor is not an SSRI but rather a noreprinephrine reuptake inhibitor. It is very strong and doesn't last in the system very long. I don't know why this is such a prescribed drug. If you do a little research you'll find that its much more invasive than other antidepressants. Some doctors refute its effectiveness totally. Most people take it after other antidpressants don't work for them (usually SSRI's). Antidepressants are only effective in treating anxiety if it is caused by a depression-related syndrome. The reason they are so widely prescribed for anxiety is that they are presumed to be the safest option (doctors covering their asses). Also, xanax is not the only drug which directly counteracts anxiety, it is part of a large group of meds known as benzodiazepines which all have similar actions. Many antidepressants REDUCE LEAN MUSCLE MASS AND INCREASE FAT. Your best bet if you care about training is to just not take any antidepressants or sedatives (like xanax). Effexor in generall makes people feel downright weird and dizzy. I'm convinced this will not be a very prescribed drug in 5-10 years.

I have seen data that show Effexor to pretty much have the highest effectiveness rating compared to other anti-d's... in SEROIUS depression.

Effexor also is not just a norepinephrine reutake inhibitor. First it ihibits serotonin reuptake, then at 150mg or so NE, and finally some effect on dopamine in higher doses.

I'm with BigBlu, this drug saved my life. It's not for everyone. You may have to try several before you find one that works for you. I use it mainly for panic syndrome. It just plain works. Sure, benzo's work immediately and are a nice drug but you NEVER want to become addicted to them. Benzo withdrawal can kill you in worst case scenario, and you will feel like you are in hell. In no way can SSRI or SNRI withdrawal be compared to Benzo withdrawal IMO.

Unfortunately I have been taking anti-anxiety and depression medications for about 15 years.

I have also taken just about every med on the market, either prescribed by my shrink, or in a clinical trial at the university.

State intuitions in California (prisons & jails) will not give you Xanax, I don’t know why, I was told they believe you can get high on Xanax----go figure, as if I can’t get meth or smack in jail.

Did 90 days a little over a year ago, knew I was going in, so cut my Xanax drastically for three months prior, and did my time. Without Xanax.

So yes it is addictive but you can get off it with out going to some silly out patient clinic that charges $45,000 for three weeks.

Effexor is a BITCH to come off of. I had to leave work it was so bad. And I was tapering down from only 150mg/day. For the record it only hits norepinephrine at around 300mg. It's just marketed that way. Ask about Lexpro or go with the real tried and true and look into zoloft.

Just my two cents

Lexapro is just as bad coming off of.
