I've tried Echinacea (Capsules) to fight the common cold w/o any good result

high doses of vitamine C did not work better

any idea ?

Are you currently taking glutamine? I recently read an artical which claimed that glautamine was used as a "fuel" for both the skelatal muscular system and the immune system. When you are going through heavy training, the body becomes depleated and you end up with more colds and upper respitory infections. I've been taking glutamine since the summer and have been healthy. Of course I may have had a bit of luck.

MGN3 really works better than anything I've tried. They have lots of stuff at beyond-a-century.com, but MGN3 is the best I've tried and got it at DPSnutrition. Second runner up would be AHCC found at BAC.

vit. E is the most powerful anti oxidant i can think of

glutamine is said to boost the immune system...it has a role in immune funtcion or somethingl.

to be honest though studies done on echinacea says even though the antivirals in it seem to help old people, they are less effective in healthy young people. i;d just go with veg and fruit, and good nutrition.....+ what u mentioned

chicken soup helps with congestion....the fat and steam is the BEST decongestion (proven in studies :D)

Risky is right on. MGN3 and AHCC are spectacular. Plus the chicken soup trick is medically proven. Chicken is naturally high in anti-histimines. You want to boil a fresh free range chicken in some water with garlic as well and drink this every day you are sick. Fantastic recipe as well. I have tried a few deli grade chicken stocks but they do not work as well as homemade with free range chickens.

I personally use a combination depending on degree of exposure. I don't have a spleen so I have noticed for me it is easier to get sick nowadays. I can't afford a day off from work so I have to get better VERY quickly.

When I am actually sick, I take:

Glutamine--I take 20-40 grams every night before bed on days when I have any symptoms of being sick. I don't necessarily recommend that much, but that's just what I do. Do some research and see if that amount is okay to take this much before trying it. I will take 10 grams when I am around anyone who's sick.

Usnea Whole Lichen. Yes folks, that's the stuff usnic acid is made from. A heavy dose works pretty well sometimes. I don't necessarily recommend it but it works for me. Again, don't take my recommendation, ask a natural pharmacist or textbook before doing it. Back when it was available, Lipokinetix was a trick I used to keep me going when I had the flu.

Echinacea/Goldenseal/Elderberry combination--Any of them by themselves don't do jack for me. But all 3 combined seem to prevent most things.

AHCC works great and can cut the sick time in half. Easily. Not cheap though. MGN3 is a fine choice as well. If it's worth the money to get rid of a cold in record time consider it as well.

For prevention, I believe highly in lauric acid as well. A good hefty dose works well against a wide variety of viruses. I take it every single time I get exposed to anyone who's sick. You can also eat coconut oil and get lots of lauric acid too. This is my number one prevention. Plus it's not too expensive.

BacDoc I like you get sick very easily, I believe my immune system is weak, and have read on countless supplements for colds and immune system boosters. I've never heard of Lauric Acid, how do I get it and and how much do I take?

As far as preventors to colds, L-glutamine helps at a minimal level IMO. N-Acetyl-Cysteine does help me out quite a bit I've noticed as far as prevention, and Zinc at night as well.

The MGN3 does kick ass, more so than the AHCC IMO, but if you want that cold gone ASAP the price is hefty. I also tried Maitake Mushrooms, they just about as good as Echinacea.

Any info you can offer on Lauric Acid or other suggestions is greatly appreciated. I'm especially interested at this moment b/c I got a sore throat for the last 3 days.
Thanks
