Eating while on...

JKurz1

Banned
How are you guys eating while on? Still measure and weigh your food, no junk food, nothng that isnt completely clean and just more of it? Bulking I'm assuming for most.....counting cals, carbs? Just curious.......

I don't technically count cals & fat. I just try to eat quality foods and high protiens. I usually never have a problem gaining...it is just the difficult fat deposits that haunt old men with slow thyroid output...So Ive started trying to eliminate sugar. I don't know if it will work out better, but the way I workout and and do cardio, fat should be easier to get rid of...so I've done good in the last few weeks on eliminating sugars...so I'll see where it gets me.

when i bulk the only thing i really measure is protein. I usually just take in as much as i can, and try to keep it clean. There is no reason for me to count carbs or fat, b/c i know i'm getting enough.

while i cut i keep track of everything down to the last gram.

During my first bulking cycle, I made the mistake of taking a friend's advice and eating everything I could get my hands on, just shoot for calories. I started the cycle 2 weeks after my first show. I couldn't have been more than 5 or 6% bf. I was 18% at the end of my 8 weeks. I used to be a compulisve over-eater. Everything I can get my hands on is 8000+ calories a day. I have no trouble eating 4 large pizzas and 1/2 gallon of blue bell by myself in one day. I recomend eating very clean.

I do eat clean and you've seen my diet...however, sometimes, I'm hungry as hell before 2-3 hours is up and a protein shake w/ PB doesnt cut it.......but, I'm afraid to add more PB, because I want it to be lean mass.......any suggestions?

ballpark figures

I try and keep as much as an acuarate count as I can. It's tough ciounting every last calorie, but learn as much as you can. know portion sizes and try and be able to estimate the calories and ratios of foods you eat as best you can. I'm not saying know everything as far as calories you take in a day, but the more of a rough idea you have, the better. This way it helps you to not miss out on gains, and hopefully not to over-do it either. measure what you have control over, meat portions, natty pb portions, bread and rice potions, condiment portions, flax portions....you get the idea.

This is what I got going on right now....I'm doing mod . cardio every am first thing and train 5x / week (1hr, mod-high volume) after work..I'm 6'2....185lb and about 7%.......would like to put on 30lbs over the next year, while staying realitvely lean.........225 would be ideal around 9-10%............this enough?

My protein intake is the thing i'm most concerned about, then sometimes its a toss up between fat and carbs. I try to follow everything. I use a spreadsheet thru the day to track my progress and tell me what I need to reach my goals for the day. I also have it set up to where it give me the percentages of fats, carbs, and fats. It has helped me a lot!

Jkurz1,

You should add some more food products. Shakes are good for hitting your protein amounts, but they dont put on wieght like food...

I keep track of protein and try to keep it clean as possible while not overdoing the carbs, always, not just while on. While I'm on, just more of everything, especially protein.

i usually go gung ho and eat whatever but Im already around 15% bf I think and dont want to go any higher so clean bulk this time

I try to take in 300grams of protien per day, and usually have a 1/1 ratio of protien and carbs. If there's fat in it, so be it!

Jkurz, you seem lean at 185 7%. Try making your diet 4 food meals and 2-3 shakes depending on what your body can handle. You seem to have a good grip in protien, eventhough to me for at your wieght your having excess. To much protein can lead to fat so remember that. Your carbs are very low. Looking at your diet the only carbs you have are coming from oatmeal in the morning, veggies and whatever amount is in your shakes. That is not enough to gain weight. Go with oatmeal, baked potatoes (sweet), yogurt to go along with each food meal. This will put on some quality wieght. The only thing you will get fat from is if you eat carbs like chips and cookies so dont be afraid.

Go more into detail about what kind of shakes you take listing if they are simply shakes or meal replacements. List their carbs on the label also..

By the way, I am the same way when I am on a cycle and off as a matter of fact. I eat very clean but just alot more. For example:

Meal 1. 7 Egg Whites with 2 cups of oatmeal with either cereal or a bagel

Meal 2. 1-2 Turkey sandwhiches on whole wheat, with yogurt

Meal 3. 2 Chicken Breast with a rice (brown or white)

Meal 4. Pre work out shake (20g of protein) and oatmeal

Meal 5 Post Workout Shake

Meal 6. Dinner- may be steak or chicken with veggies and baked potato

And a shake before I go to bed.

Keep it simple with and eat 2-3 hours. Snakes include bananas, peanuts and granola bars. Hope this helps a little!

Big help...thanks bro - actually, you missed the yam at my third meal.....not that it is still enough, I agree. My 2nd meal is 55 slow digesting protein with 2 tbs of anpb......same with my before bed shake w/o the anpb, but with real peanuts (love this meal) and a homemade protein bar consisting of whey, splenda, egg whites, and ff cream cheese (baked of course).....my preworkout shake is a myoplex meal replacement w/ 1tb of flax and my post is 30g of gluco. and 20g of whey......you weigh your food? I think that my real problem.....even if Im still hungry, I stop........I need to learn to eat till I'm comfortably full......I wonder if I nex cardio and keep the diet, will the mass come? It's just that I ea RIGHT before bed and feel shitty if I don't burn it off first thing in the am......I havent had bread, bro, in years......haven't cheated other than a proein bar, some ff veggies dip or ff cool whip in YEARS......no fast food, no pizza..nada........and I dont really miss it.....just want to pack on the lean weight....my buddy (3rd at Mr.Ohio) is 5'10 and 30 lbs heavier...kid bulks hard with whatever he wants (I walked in the gym yesterday and he was eating pizza and had a mcdonald's bag on the table.......he says he'll put on 20lbs in a couple months and 10 will be lean......diets off 10 and now he's jacked at 210lbs......mind over matter...

eata lot but only lean stuff and try to gain much as posible you're taking a risk of using ass anyways why not benefit as much as you can.

everyone has different diet approaches. Some like to eat alot of shit to gain 25lbs and others like ourselves will eat clean and gain 10-15lbs lean. I like our option better because it is healtheir and the gains are in quality. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders so the most you can do is a little trial and error with the food.

As far as cardio is concerned, I wouldnt go crazy. Dont run 5x a week for an hour because that will mess up your weight. However, do enought to make you feel comfortable such as 3x a week for 20mins. This will help you ensure you gains are lean and will make your appearance look harder. When using AAS, you will gain wieght no matter what...its just a question of how much...Good luck

CPA- email me...you an accountant? If so, we may have more things in common.........that whole 2 cups of oats drives me crazy.....I eat 3/4 cup of steel cut in the am and it fills a pretty huge bowl after I add 2 cups of water......2 cups of dry oats would be f-ing gigantic and no way could I stomach that much fiber..tis why I use the shakes......
