How long do you guys wait after you had some food, before you start your workout..

I usually go after 45 min.

You should definitely wait a good 2 hours - 1 1/2 if its liquid protein, ie protein shake. But it also depends on what you are trying to do - gain weight, get cut, etc.

Could you elaborate? What if you are cutting?

Sure: if you're trying to lose fat and keep your LBM then you would want to make sure you wait a good 2 hours before hitting the gym - then what you should do is either do cardio in the AM before eating anything or directly after your workout - since both of those times are better for directly accessing your fat stores - in the AM you are directly getting into your fat stores (45 min cardio) and after your workout you should have worked thru all the extra buildup in your body and be into more of a fat burning mode at that point. Hope that helps

depends what the meal consisted of.
'
for example, if the meal was protein powder mixed with milk/water, then one hour should be fine.

if, however, the meal was say tuna with vegetables, or egg whites with brown rice and beans, then a minimum of 2 hours is required before that food is actually utilized as energy.

i eat at 2:30 and lift at 5:30, since im a bigger guy and have a slow metabolism, i need to wait a little longer

I actually eat on the way to the gym its only a 10 minute ride and i have a can of tuna, 2 cups of oatmeal and a banana...somtimes i swallow my last bite right before squats or w/e at the gym....peace

Yoy should wait until your last meal is mostly digested

how long?

I dont understand the logic behind eating 1.5 to 2 hours before you workout. Eating high GI carbs can raise your insulin levels within 20 minutes. From what I understand, it is more beneficial to have your levels peaking mid-way through your workout so there is plenty of glucose when your muscles are dying for it. So it seems to me that eating a small liquid shake with high GI and some protein 30 minutes before would be best, and then a larger shake as soon as you are done. I believe the argument against this is that people say that you body will be using energy to digest the meal instead of energy for your workout which seems to me to be complete bull-shit. This is just my opinion though. Anyone agree?

As far as pre-workout meal timing goes, I've found it easiest to gauge it by eating a big bowl of Cheerios or Rice Crispies about 20 minutes before I hit the weights. The high GI carbs enter my system fast and give me the energy I need to lift hard. This always works well for me.

I'm bulking so I eat 40 minutes before hitting the gym. When cutting do the same but I never eat more than protein and a maximum of 20g carbs pre workout. The biggest difference is post workout, I wait about 30 minutes post workout before taking my shake. Doing it this way I got down to 5%bf, most important is not to eat carbs before bedtime

So you have protein with some high GI carbs (like grapejuice?) pre and you wait 30 minutes after yourworkout then have protein with carbs?

How many hours before you sleep is your last meal with carbs?
