dying leather shoes

I'm going to buy some white leather creepers, they're pretty cool but I think they'd look better in black or blue. Can they be died? Is it something I have to have someone else do or can I do it myself?

don't try that, they will look like shit. Just get the color you want.
I would if they were available in either of those colors

I think I'll still get them though

they're like $60

I found them at some local shoe shop that still has boots and shoes (like doc martens, chipawas, etc...) stocked from the early 90's when all that shit was in. They still have monkey boots, if you even know what those are, LOL. They don't make that model anymore so I can't link an image.

I'll probaly head over there right after work, I'll flick a pic of them when i get home and post it.

sounds cool, sucks they are white

Go to a leather shop, or boot shop, you have to take the dye off first, you can buy a compound and try it yourself, not sure of the name, then you apply the dye, it shouldn't cost much to just have them do it, they re-dye boots all the time.

first you've got to break down the dye that's on there. lemme see if i can remember all this....

saddle soap. fine grit sandpaper. water. wear it down a bit.

leather dye. many applications.

shine them with the same color you dyed with. it's going to be easier to do this with black than any other color. i've seen a pair of white doc martens that were dyed black and they came out pretty decent. the girl that did it didn't break down the white dye first though, so after a while it started to wear off. she wore them everywhere though, they got wet, etc. still, it wasn't hard to redo it and make them black again.

The white shoes I originally wanted wound up being a little snug on me so I wound up getting these red suede ones instead :)

while I'm at it, I'll also post a pic of the shirt I was wearing when I fucked up my knee back in October. This happened at a small bar in O.C. during a show by The Dwarves (punk band). Check out the foot prints on the back, I got tossed up in that pit. This is after dry cleaning too, that shit didn't come off, LOL

nice man, don't forget to post the pics.

Do a lot of shoes come with stash spots like that? I've never seen that before.

If you tried to wear that on an airplane would they freak out like you were the shoe bomber?

dude do they have 14 eyed ox blood steel toed docs?
don't know about "ox blood" but they tons of 8 or 10 hole docs in black, red, green, blue, purple, white and all sorts of the shoes that were in back then. I used to shop there when I was in high school, I happened to stop by a few weeks ago to check it out and they still have most of the same stuff, LOL

I'll probably go back and pick up some chippewa boots, those bitches are $189 though, but they look tough

My best friend is a cobbler, yes they are still out there, just a dying breed.......If you really want to dye them yourself. You can pick up a bottle of SHOE leather dye. The trick to getting the dye to stay on permanetly is to simply apply it in a small area. While it is still wet, hold a lighter to it, it will burn the dye into the shoe. Just watch out for a minor flare up....no joke.
