Dvorak is cool

I'm learning how to type on a Dvorak keyboard... my typing speed has instantly dropped from 120wpm to about 20wpm... this sucks!!!

Oh yeah... and I also don't know where all the letters are, including the letter "I," so I have to hunt and peck kust to tppe "Warik>"... shit, another misspelling...

(Now switching back to QWERTY so I can finish this post before the Second Coming.)

The QWERTY keyboard layout was originally invented to slow down typists. It was developed back in the typewritter days, and slowing down typing speed would help to reduce the number of typewritter jams occuring each day. The Dvorak keyboard layout came later which has the most commonly used letters located on the home row in order to increase speed and reduce stress on the fingers.

In an experiment, I copied and pasted the entire play Hamlet into a comparison Java applet and it showed that 70% of the letters typed were in the home row for Dvorak compared to only 30% for QWERTY... additionally, the QWERTY keyboard typist's fingers had to travel a good 1,000-2,000 meters more than those of the Dvorak typist.

hmm.....annoying they never switched away from qwerty earlier. always found it a pian innthe ass

but, since every comuter uses it just about im happy i learnt the location of all the keys
