Dudes with longer than average hair

How did you get there? For me, the process is tough, and I wonder if the same went for you.

I am in the process of letting mine grow out. Now is it inevitable that during this process there is a phase where it just looks incredibly lame no matter what? I have trimmed it to look non-sloppy myself, just to avoid the hairdressers cutting it lots shorter and the process taking much longer thence making the lame stage repeat itself and seem like an episode of the twighlight zone.

I think I am coming down the homestretch where it starts looking better, but I just wanted to know.....

Generally, i hit a period where it looks like I am in the 70's. I always cave at that point and get it cut. I wouldn't mind some hair in my face like in the old days in high school when I was all about the grunge...I'm such a loser.

I used to have somewhat long hair. It would look all puffy if I didnt spend time getting it perfect before I went out. I was never one of those "hand through hair and out the door" kind of guys.

i guess if its really long make sure you use some conditioner and also some styling shit.

See thats the thing. This is about my third attempt in my recent yesteryeras where i have tried to grow it out. Upon entrance of the sucky lame phase i almost always run crying like a little bitch to the barber shop and get it buzzed. Im about 2 to 3 weeks ahead of my previous records and I'm hoping to see the light soon.

No offense to longhairs but long hair is really really out of style. Very lame in my opinion. I think only 35+ women might find it sexy. Carmela from Sopranos might think it looks hot. haha. When Metallica cut there hair you know it is out of style because they are far from "hip".

Naw mang. Hmmm, i can't think of an example that you would recognize. Just over the ears long. Kind of a mop top type deal but not quite that silly looking.

I go long with a bum part in the middle and it's straight, always trimmed on the sides and almost undercut at the back, with sideburns.

Don't blow dry it. If you blow dry it, it will go sucky. Let it dry on it's own.

Is your hair straight or curly?

My hair is very straight. and blonde. So in this inbetween stage i tend to look mega gay. Gayer then usual. Yes i know, its hard to grasp, but its true.

Its almost there though. Mine is more the long all around. The messy kinda deal. Like one fella said, like some of the pretty boy models have. Except I'm prettier then they are.

Hell yes, it takes years, and you look like a grungy bum for awhile. My hair grows 1/2" per month (except the back is more like 5/8" per month), so it took quite along time. Trim it every so often to help avoid split ends and keep it looking semi decent, some people look ok with grunge hair but I hated it.

On windy days and sometimes at night you choke on your own hair sometimes, thats fun. Annoying as all hell in the wind as well. Plus you get the enjoyment of people watching you everywhere you shop, suspicious of everything you do. It really opens your eyes to what a bunch of overly suspicious fuckers some people are.

I'm right past the hell stage (that's what i call it). It's looking great and I keep getting, "oh, you look like the guy from 'Lifehouse' " at work. Trust me....it'll look great after you get past that stage....Just wear lots of hats, bandannas, or gel if you have to.

Is your hair curly? Mine is when it's short and straightens from teh weight but if you really want to help yourself out and it's really curly, use relaxer like black people do. It makes your hair very straight and lots easier to work with.

Long hair isn't everyone's cup of tea but it really changes your look and is fun to try at least once. The girls that like it, REALLY like it so run with it...It sets you apart. Good luck, bro.

BTW: NEVER get it trimmed...they always f it up and it'll never grow. Just trim the sideburns and that ugly hair the might grow on your upper neck.

It gets decent when you can tie it behind your head and it doesn't unbundle, thats when its not so bothersome. I used to tie it at the top of my head when I went to sleep to keep it from getting tangled etc, sometimes I'd braid it but then I'd have a fro in the morning LoL

Yeah i have been trimming the sideburns and getting my girlfriend to cut the nasty crud on my upper neck. My hair is very straight so it doesn't look too messy if i keep the stray under hairs clipped. My girlfriend digs the longer hair so it'll pay off here soon hopefully.

slick i have the perfect way to handle this and avoid the awkward hair stage you are talking about. get some clippers, slap a #3 guard on it, and run it all across the top of your head and on the sides. leave the back alone and in about 4-6 months you should be looking sharp.
in all seriousness, there's nothing you can do except grin and bear it, with the knowledge in the back of your mind that it will eventually turn out exactly how you want it. other than wearing hats, there just isn't shit you can do.

Damm, some of you are worst than girls My hair is getting longer because I can't afford a haircut. Mine is curly, but not too curly and light brown. Is getting longer than usual, I guess I'm in that akward stage too where I look like a bum, but I don't mind, I'm a surfer so it doesn't look bad, the chicks dig it. I usually have it short or shaved, but I guess I'll let it grow and see what happes.
