drunk on business

stilleto

ELITE MENTOR
EF VIP
so i'm away on business. There's a bunch of us here- all physicists and engineers, and my boss. There's also some physicists from the UK division of our company.

so the food and drinks is on the company.
i haven't eaten more than usual at all- BUT... i've charged room service for my breakfast (in my room- $32 for some fruit), had nothing but starbucks coffee all day, and have had a drink before, during, and after dinner. we are staying in a super nice hotel, and drinks in the lobby are $10 -12 each.

now, i've indulged more than normal, but some of my peers... they are OUT of control.
they ran up a $600 bar bill the other night. dinner was $1400. one manager in training was supposed to be at an 8am meeting- she was too hung over and didn't show up until 10:30am.
one of our physicists from the UK stayed at the bar ALL evening and drank. When we all got back from dinner and everyone sat in the lounge, he just wouldn't step away from me. Drunk and horny. thats all he talked about, was how horny he was and about sex. cornering me and saying super raunchy things.

I finally sent my boss a text message on the other side of the room saying "HELP".

so we sent him off to sleep and then we were talking- people are out of control when the drinks are free and they are away from home. I understand it, but don't people feel funny acting that way in front of their BOSS?

Wanna piece of gum?

It's tasty (watermelon)

:)

I'm heading to Vegas Sunday for a 4 day conference, I expect to see this type of thing and more. People will be getting laid for sure (married, co workers, etc.) Last year bar tabs were insane. Platinum Patron martinis were like $100 each, pure self indulgence.

it's like 3am my time. I have to get up in 3 hours to catch a plane.
my clothes are scattered EVERYWHERE. not like hh, but still.
there's no room in my suitcase and i have receipts in every pocket of every piece of clothing.

and wtf. the bed is made so tight it hurts my toes.
i gotta get my shit together.
goodnight.

Middle Class Commandos - away from screaming kids and annoying wife - this is expected.

Strip clubs, bars, restaurants love these clienteles. Tho I ask, what company signs off on $600 bar tabs and $1100 meals???! Paris Hilton Financial Services Inc. ?

r

I loved it when we would take clients out and run up huge tabs on the company. One of the best was taking out the heads of exploration for Exxon, dinner for 7 was like $1,500, and that's not including the bar tab from waiting for out table.

It was usually the owner of our company that would make a drunken fool of himself so the rest of us could get away with pretty much anything and look ok.

Cheers,
Scotsman

drunk retardedness = bonding

some of my fave moments with my "boss" were when i was high on sleeping pills (he woke me up. then i started talking. fucker) or drunk, making out with some girl

Anymore when I travel, I just hole up in my hotel room and post on EF.

I pocket the cash, and just make a fool of myself HERE. It works out great.

well, we have 3 sales people here- they are schmoozing customers- i'm not even referring to that.
the big bar tabs was just us- the company employees out for drinks after dinner.

the time change is killing me.

It's a good way for owners to find out who they can really trust.. plus, parties like that are great for building secrets and manipulation..

It's never good for anyone..

Famed for getting ugly on the company tab, are the Brits, Noggies and the Krauts, they hail from binge drinking cultures that you lightweights just can't compete with.

I do not understand behavior like that. I mean, I *get* WHY they do this, because they think they CAN. "Company is paying the tab so why not?" I have ZERO respect for people who conduct themselves in this fashion. If you can't hold your liquor, then DONT DRINK...

I find it comical said business warriors blow $600 on alcohol -- then fly coach.

Hahaha.

I smell a new DVD:

"Cubicle Warriors Gone Wild! - New Orleans (hosted by Snoop Dogg)"

"Watch Sally from HR get all jiggy with it - with Bob from Accounting!!"

I remember when i was young and learning the ropes one guy pulled me aside (because I like to drink) and said NOT to drink when you go out with the management because shit gets crazy. I stayed sober for the seminar and subsequent night of drunken debauchery. I was shocked how people acted. We also had an intern come along, who was the top select to get the job, and he ended up not getting the job because he got shitty drunk. I never drink when I am with my colleagues, only with friends.

We had an open bar th other night at the annual schools award ceremony and people got hammered. I see it as being unprofessional. Under different circumstances I have no issue with people getting lit. Work comes first for me. Plus I know my limits. I would be the craziest person in the room if I got drunk. I learned the hard way a long time ago.

happy to say I’ve never had the same experience
looks like the 24hr drinking laws have had a massive effect
it used to be the case in the UK that you'd get out at 7pm
neck ten pints before closing hour at 11pm
and then everyone would flood out the bars together in complete chaos
so they relaxed the laws on opening hours hoping to avoid the violence and trouble it caused
they're now thinking about changing it back because the cases of alcoholism have increased dramatically
shit they could have looked above them at bonnie Scotland where they've had open drinking hours for years
some of the worst alcoholism and violence of any western country

Brits operate by a different set of rules. I used to work for a British company and 90% of my annual alcohol consumption came from the week I spent back at the home office. You had to stay drunk just to tolerate it most of the time.

Germans like to drink too. They do not get shitty-stupid like Americans though.
