These were taken from DAWN (drug awareness warning network), the CDC, and SAMHSA

Deaths in 2002

430,000 from tobacco
116,113 from alcohol, almost ¼ were drunk driving accidents, 32% of those were from binge drinking (been guilty of that one,, lol)
200,000 from prescription and over the counter drug interactions
0 steroid deaths, I looked everywhere and could not find 1 death attributed to steroids, but I could be wrong

emergency room visits from drug use stats for 2002

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) — 28,720 (Ranked 8th)
Alcohol— 207,395 (Ranked 1st)
Marijuana — 119,362 (Ranked 3rd)
Aspirin — 7,494 (25th)
Fluoxetine (Prozac) — 5,770 (29th)
Alprazolam (Xanax) — 27,659 (9th)
Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) — 5,430 (32nd)
Ibuprofen (Advil) — 15,867 (14th)
Oxycodone (OxyContin) — 14,996 (15th)
Naproxen (Aleve) — 4,576 (35th)
Caffeine — 1,999 (59th)
Amoxicillin — 830 (89th)
Codeine — 1,237 (73rd)
Hydrocodone — 2,420 (51st)
Morphine — 2,775 (48th)
Ephedrine — 1,033 (79th)
Prednisone — 348 (137th)
Multivitamin with Minerals — 376 (131st)
Herbal Products — 415 (126th)
Metformin — 505 (116th)
Cocaine — 199,198 (2nd)
Heroin — 93,519 (4th)
Androgens/Anabolic Steroids — 319 (142nd)

Okay this is what I thought was funny multivitamins and Caffeine ranked higher for causes of emergency room visits than did steroids. Also, most steroid related emergency room visits were attributed to infections of one sort or another.
Just some shit to think about when it comes to the BS our news and leaders feed us. .

no shit huh

This is likely because no-one (documented anyway) actually takes some orals or injections and within hours is dead from an OD.

I think the deaths/ailments from steroid use/abuse is/are further down the line.

When a guy drops dead from a heart attack at 40 and was juicing it up from 25-30, I DOUBT that the death is reported as due to steroids (if that were the even the cause.) Perhaps I am mistaken.

This very well may be the case but it is hard to point the finger to roids alone in this case when other factors are involved such as diet, lifestyle etc. The whole point is that in comparison to other things that are perfectly legal that are just as safe if not safer for your health. Obviously anything that you put in your body is going to have an effect on how it works and I will not deny that.

One thing I do remember being a bit older than most people on here is that people used to say all these bodybuilders from the 70 and 80's would be falling over dead, but it just has not happened. Most bb'ers that do die do so preparing for shows when they are in a depleted state and diuretics are being employed. Arnold ate DBOLS like candy and he seems to be doing just fine in his life and he looks better than most guys pushing 60. Just some food for thought!

No I honestly could not find one stat on deaths related to steroids in the last year. I am sure there are some, but remember roids are not like smack. If OD on smack you die an hour later and it is not like that with aas's. The effects of AAS's are more long term and could be hard to directly link to their use, such as heart problems etc. which just as easily could be genetic in nature of from a poor diet. So to be fair and objective I am sure there are deaths related to aas's but they are very hard to pin down.

Thanks for rephrasing my comments.

i thought there has never been a reported case of dying from marijuana.......not including accidents while stoned or lung cancer...any one have more info

lol multivitamins and minerals, didnt realise anyone ever died from that, iwonder what they did, 100g of vit c?:|

hmm,

I wonder how many out of 319 knew what they were doing with those drugs... The majority of them are arrogant, lazy fu.ks, who didn't want to spend time studying what the hell the put into themselves...

The only thing that this report doesn't point out, is the ratio of say, steroid users to caffiene users in America.

it would be best to see a chart based upon, for example, 1/1000 or 1/100,000 findings.

I am far from critizing the report, obviously steroid related incidents are still extremely rare, given there is an estimated 3 million users nationwide.

I would imagine that the marijauna related emergency room visits were from people that had accidents while stoned. Just a guess though.

As for number versus number stats there are roughly 250 million people in the us that use caffeine or related products more than once a week.

0.796 visits per 100,000 users a year for caffeine
13.3 visits per 100,000 users of steroids (remember these are almost all related to infections)
9.64 visits per 100,000 users of alcohol
1.91 visits per 100,000 users of tylonol
25.001 visits per 100,000 users of cocaine
89.9 users per 100,000 die from smoking each year

smoking is more deadly than cocaine use,,, this is a scarey stat

Schwarzenegger is looking pretty damn good and healthy with all that steroid usage. Same with ball players.

I think the BIGGETS problem people have with steroids when you tell them you're on it is -- is the fear that you'l look like a muscle FREAK!

that and jealousy.

Smoking, drinking and over-eating i think does WAY more damage to you in the long run than prolonged steroid usage imho.

didnt Arnold have open heart surgery a few years back?

Yes it was a valve malfunction totally unrelated to usage to steroids.
And i still want to know how the hell you die from smaking weed......................do you eat yourself to death?
RADAR

That's what i'm wondering too. I've always keep wondering WHY the hell marijuana was made illegal in the first place. It's nowhere NEAR possessing as many harmful effects as tobacco or alcohol and those two are legal. It's fucked up. Weed was legal with native americans for centuries, then those damn white boys came over and made it illegal for all. Go figure.

If I remember correctly his father and brother both died at young ages from the same heart defect. It was more than likely a genetic thing.

I am sure most of the weed related emergency room visits were due to accidents. Such as a freind of mine many years who fucked his finger all up by slamming it in the refrigerator door,,, lol. That would be my guess. Also had a friend that broke out in hives after smoking and had to go in to the hospital, so I guess it can happen. It is still not as bad as alcohol or smoking.

you dont hear of to many people getting killed in weed driving accidents.

There was only one recorded case of THC poisoning to such a level that it caused death. It was an english guy who smoked 4 - 7 joints a day for 3+ years. It's almost impossible to die from weed. That is why this was the only known death directly caused by a "weed OD". A person can overdose from overuse of anything. If you eat too many bananas for too long you will die from all of the potassium you are ingesting...

Or they got rocked and geeked out and thought they were dying....everyone knows this person! His name was Brandon! HAHAHAHA! We talked him down but he was ready for a squad ride!

Quad

I bet that the people who are not steroid-users that are reading this thread pretty much chalk it up to a bunch of juice-pigs trying to rationalize their bad habit.
