Ok, I wanted to post this here so people would understand.

Drrman, is a current PAYING member of Elite Fitness that was caught up in a situation with Pay Pal.

Unfortunately, when he logged into the boards and couldn’t get in, and then sent an email to us he was told that his account was Platinum Disabled for non-payment.

The reason that we were not able to cross-reference his situation is that Pay Pal gave us a personal older email address for him, and it did not match anything that was in our system.

I have called and spoke with him on the phone and cleared the matter up and activated his account. He is a current member in good standing and I apologize for the situation ever happening.

As a point to the rest of the members of the board, if something like this ever happens in the future, please simply call or explain your situation in full to us before you react in a negative way on the boards. When posts start screaming at us and we don’t have all the information, we have no way to help. In this case after about 10 PMs to each other, we got to the end of the anger and the beginning of information so that I could actually try and help.

My whole account problem was actually an issue w/paypal and me vs ef and me. If people look into it they very well may discover that their paypal account is all fucked up.

now if they could fix that post swap thing...

I got your PM on this, its a sever issue becuase we are working on three differnt servers (this is why we are so fast)! So its either be slow, or get an addittional post swap. :)

kinda figured that had to do with the cluster. I'll live with the swap :)

I'm curious - is MySQL spread over three servers or is it apache?

hmmm... why delete my post?

You're not right, sam. It does not have to be that way, it is poor db administration.

Good quesion, I think it is Apache, but with the cluster I have no idea to be honest. I do know that we hit all three server and I can test it and it tells me which we are on at any given moment. The problem is, lets say we are on one when someone posts, then a sec later we are on another, this is what is causing the posts to swap like that.

i have to thank sam, he was very professional even during my raging and got things straightened out, props to him

yes. and even if they don't fix the software to use the DB time (as it should be in the first place) instead of the web server time. There are gobs of free utilities that can keep the time syncronized on the web servers so that it wouldn't happen.

Hell, I have one running on my PC at home....

your post is going to be deleted. my first one was. It is just a matter of time before sam comes back and purports his bs...

I got bounced off by the Platinum expiration. Sam had me back online within minutes.

It's important to remember the reason for going Platinum in the first place - to support the site.

Sam seems like a good guy, I don't think he's bs'ing, he just wasn't aware of a solution. The post swap problem is a common problem in (not so good) client server code. Fortunatly, there are easy fixes available. But until you know what they are, you may think you have to live with it.

Cool. I've had issues with clustered servers messing with my code before, so I feel your pain.

I am glad thats its not my pain. I just deal with customer service and the boards etc. We have an ISP that deals with everything else.

What some people fail to realize is that we are one of the largest vbulliten boards on the planet and these things run totally different than your average site.

With over 40,000 members and hundreds on at any given time it can be nuts. Thanks again for your comments and if you ever need anything please let me know and I will do what I can.

I could fix this issue in 15 minutes.

it is not rocket science we are talking about.

And, why DELETE posts instead of simply saying, "really, i did not know that."

I have a question, if you go platinum, and then decide to not be platinum, say for financial reasons, can you go back to being a regular member, or is your account disabled?

skaman, if you pay up front for say 8 months and then don't pay again, you won't lose your name. If they are billing you and you don't pay, i assume you will get your username disabled.

George posted the specs earlier, and there were 2 web servers, and 1 database server.

Given that, I'd expect that MySQL resides solely on the DB server.

Just a guess.

Oh, and kudos to Sam for resolving such a volatile situation.

:)
