Dropsets??

How effective are dropsets? Are they something you can incorporate daily or every so often. I like them because when I go heavy I don't feel the "burn" as much so my last set I like to drop the weight and burn out. I also thought by doing this too often I could possibly be promoting overtraining.....any thoughts?.......SSAlexSS need not respond:D

I do them for the same reason. However, I think every so often is sufficient. I don't think drop sets are necessary on every excercise.

I currently do a lot of them. On most exercises, on the last set, I'll do a heavy drop set (3-7 reps). A few exercises are designed to do a little more than that. I like them to finish things up for sure. I get more improvements with them incorporated into my workouts than when they're not.

I do them on the last exercise for whatever bodypart I'm training, one or two drop sets at that point makes sure I've taken the muscle beyond failure but it's not enough to overtax my system.

Exactly! This irrational fear of overtraining so easily is nuts. You're supposed to push yourself folks!

I do them very sparingly, mostly I'll devote a month or two were I do a drop set after each excecise before I go on the next one. The are very beneficial if you keep your from down, a lot of times people's froms get whacked cause they are just trying to get the weight up.

Have you heard of the irrational overtraining fear that pervades some bodybuilding circles. You can't go nuts in the gym and train like Arnie's encyclopedia reccomends unless you have a "recover aid." However, most folks wouldn't even dare to try that anyhow. People run into trouble by not eating well, drinking too much, and/or not sleeping much. Years and years of experience has taught me what I can and what people at five separate gyms can and can't do.

You haven't addressed the issue. Going to failure (and beyond such as drop sets) places tremendous stress on the nervous system and is not an ideal way to train.
