I need to vent!
I work in the accounts receivable department for a large beer and wine distributor. My particular section handles the direct interaction with the drivers. One of my drivers has taken it upon himself to tell drivers from other companies that I'm sleeping with him. Here are a few things that are wrong with his lies:
1. I don't date or sleep with my coworkers. That is a rule I make VERY clear to everyone, but he must have missed that memo.
2. He's FUGLY and creeps me out.
3. He tells everyone in our company that I'm a bitch.
(I'm kind of proud of that one.)
Ok follow me here: I'm dating a guy (we'll call him Joe) who is best friend's with the cousin of someone (we'll call him Mike) that I used to work with when I worked for Budweiser. Enough of a soap opera for you yet? Wait, it gets better! So I get a call Sunday evening from 'Joe' shortly before I'm supposed to meet him at his house for dinner. Here are the cliff notes from the conversation:
Joe: "I have something I need to ask you... are you sleeping with anyone else?"
Me: "WTF? .... Uh, not that I'm aware of"
Joe: "You sure? Not someone you work with? One of your drivers?"
Me: "Oh heeeeeeeeell no! The very thought makes me want to puke. Why would you ask me that?"
Joe: "I heard from 'Mike' that he heard from one of the drivers he works with that you were sleeping with one of your drivers."
Me: "EXCUSE ME?"
Ok, so the rest of the conversation I had with 'Joe' is between the two of us. I will say that 'Joe' and I are fine.... problem solved on that end. The interesting part was finding out which driver it was that was lying. On my way to work today I called up 'Mike' (who I hang out with once in a while) and asked him if he could find out from his driver which driver of mine was saying it. I went to work, pissed off, but I didn't know who to be pissed at... kind of frustrating. I talked with my boss about what I would be allowed to do on my own to fix this and she said whatever I wanted, outside of beating the driver into a bloody pile... DAMN IT! I was kind of hoping that was an option. On my way home tonight 'Mike' calls and tells me the name he got from his driver. He also told me which driver of his he heard it from. I know that Bud driver well enough to know that he wouldn't lie about what he heard. This particular driver of mine is not on anyone's good side at work, as of late. Even when he is, no one likes him. SO, tomorrow should be interesting to say the least.
What pisses me off about this whole thing is it could have cost me a good relationship with a great guy. I'm glad 'Joe' was willing to give me the benefit of the doubt and ask me about it before making any decisions. That is the only reason this driver of mine gets to keep his balls and his tongue.... this time.
Ok, I think I can attempt sleep now. Thanks for reading along.
