Dr. Atkins died today - pulled from cnn.com:

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Dr. Robert Atkins, creator of the high-protein, low-carbohydrate Atkins Diet, died Thursday after an accidental fall on April 8 left him comatose.

Atkins, 72, was rushed to New York Weill Cornell Medical Center by his colleague, Dr. Keith Berkowitz, where surgeons removed a blood clot to relieve pressure in his brain on April 9.

Atkins slipped on an icy sidewalk outside his New York office.

yeah, read about that

sad days.....he just recently recorded a message for participants in a diet trial where 4 commercial diets (inc. his) were all compared....he was winning....

What a wonderful legacy to leave behind, though. Would we have Protein Power, or the Zone, or the CKD, or any kind of lowered carbohydrate diet without him having paved the way? I can't even wrap my mind around how many people's lives he touched, directly or indirectly.

Rest in peace, Dr. Atkins. Hope you're playing a harp with one hand now, and pounding Little Debbies with the other.

Ceebs,
Great post (except for the little Debbies, I'm sure he is pounding the bacon instead). It has been a combination of different LC-based diets that have given me the tools to shed 120 lbs.......it really does work if it is the right path for you.

RIP Dr A

Simply put......the guy literally saved many lives, and improved countless others.

Best thoughts to his family......he will be missed.

In november i was tipping the scales at 296 Lbs Im 6'3" im 34 and have a very large frame so i wasn't obese but close!

I have this belt that i had to make an Extra notch in to wear in november.

My blood pressure was high and my Cholesterol was getting up there also along with a smoking habit that i just kicked about a month ago. I have been heavy into the cardio for the past 2 months and some light weight training to get my muscles used to the training again. (Used to be a power lifter years ago)

So following the diet outlined by Dr Atkins in his book here is where im at today. 248 Lbs Blood Pressure normal (was before i quit smoking) cholesterol is falling back down to acceptable levels just like the Doc said it would on a high fat/protien diet. Energy levels are not only good i can't sit still anymore!

As for the belt a picture speaks a thousand words.
