Doom 3 alpha version leaked

The original DDOM, was actually
Wolfenstein.

That Nazi game. Funny as hell.

Fonz

yeah - and wolfenstein was originally on the apple 2 (][) - supported monochrome or like 4 color or something strange like that (not sure if they counted the black of the screen as a color).
it was a bird's eye view sort of view on a map and you moved around it.
id liked that and years later made the wolfenstein.

then doom pretty much swapped out the sprite graphics in that and added new sounds - and then they made a series of those with very little change but still profited, while working on the new 3D - which was Quake. kicked ass.

they also made a series of games called commander keen which were side scrollers and were a lot of fun.
and they were the first ones to do Duke Nukem, which was then bought out and made into a 3D game with its own engine. it was the first shareware one to keep track of where you shot and left bullet images mapped over objects.

Damn...feels like such a long time ago.

I still have it. :)

The only problem is that you have to turn the scroller speed
WAY, WAY down.

If you don't, you zip through the entire maze in one hand motion...LOL

Also reminds me of the game Othello played on certain inline BBS's
back in the time. 2400Bps Modems.....haha

Took me 1.7hrs to download a 1Meg DEMO from Sierra Online.

I can't wait for this game. Damn.

All I need to do is spend another $2000 on a computer that can actually run it. :D That one guy is only getting 12FPS on a Radeon 7500....ouch.

A Radeon 7500 is a total POS!!!!!

It runs current games like ass!

Doom 3 should run fine on a P4 with a geforce 4 ti series card.

eg. I get 100 fps and up with Urban terror with details full at 1024x768 using a ti 4400. My friend used my settings with his radeon 7500 and got ONE fps!

I got this about a week ago.

My system specs are as follows:

AMD Athlon 1.3 GHZ
512 MB PC2100
GeForce II Ultra 64 Meg DDR
Western Digital 40 Gig ATA100 7200 RPM HDD
SB Live! X-Gamer

I played through the three levels of the Alpha demo...it was BARELY playable on my system, slowing down to .5 FPS at somepoints. The damage system is incredible though.

Game will be awesome, but you will need one phat computer to run it.

Just upgrade your 3d accelerator. I'd say you should at least get a ti4200, and they're pretty cheap. You could upgrade you processor too for very little cash.:D

Also, check the game settings. Try a lower resolution and fiddle with the detail settings..........lighting, real-time shadows, draw-in distance etc.

Making system requirements incredibly high is like shooting yourself in the foot. Noone will be able to play the game except hardware geeks like me. Everyone said the same thing about UT 2003 after the first leaked version.

it isn't at all shooting themselves in the foot.

it takes them from 1-3 years to write a new engine - if they design it for the current hardware at that time, then the latest hardware when it is released will be wasted on it.
they design it for the best thing at least a year away to both push sales and card design, as well as to maximize the user experience.

lol...yeah, i know it's not too hot. I just ment that it sucked for that one guy...

I just know I'm gonna have to get a really expensive graphics card and more RAM when the game comes out.

The resolution was already as low as it goes. I am planning on upgrading my shit eventually, I already have a mobo that supports the 333 setup. Goes to like 1.8 ghz I think. I'll upgrade that to max and get a gig of ram and a new video and I will be good to go. That's a long ways off though.
