Doing seated cable rows "Row-Boat" style

I've always been under the impression that when you do your cable rows, your want your back as upright as possible. Having very little "swing" and being strict with the movement.

In Arnold's pumping iron video the guys doing the seated rows looked like they were on a cardio row machine. Their body's were flying all over the place

Wanted to know what are the differences between the 2 rows, and which one is better?

Hey bro....
Me personally prefer to do them with my back in a fixed position and shoulders back. It seems to hit the lats better for me.

I like your qoute........Thats a good video, I watch it all the time.

I do them like Arnold. I think that the back needs to lose and regain the arch during the exercise...

That part of the film is cool ... you hear Ed Corney say in the background, "Come on Arnold! Suppose you got laid last night" ... I wish they had released more footage of them training, real inspiring

i use a little leaning, but not more than 6-8 inches each direction
helps stretch and contract
i feel it more like this than when i was doing them with a rigid back

I try to keep my back fixed - it goes through a little back and forward motion, but hardly any. I also try and try and get my shoulder blades to tough and really contract the back.

doing them like a row machine just looks kind of silly to me.

I will stretch a little when I let the weight go forward, but on the contraction I have a set plane that I don't break, and I squeeze my shoulder blades together at the end.

same here

I don't like forward leaning, b/c I feel that works my lower back more. If feel like I get a better exercise for my mid/upper back if I keep my back straight and concentrate on trying to make my shoulder blades touch.
