Dog is eating acorns.

I know that this sounds stupid, but my two little dogs will go out in the yard and they will chew on the acorns. They are OK as long as they don't crack the shell, but once the shell cracks they get sick and start throwing up.:(

Is there any way to get them to stop trying to eat them?

I tell them no and pop them when I catch them trying to eat them, but they keep going back to them.

I think they see the squirrels eating them and figure they must be good.

I think dogs just like to puke.

my friends dog would eat toads when he saw them. then he'd puke them up. sniff the ones he just puked up (still whole and alive and jumping), and then eat them again. and then puke them up, etc etc.

I think they just get bored and puking is something to do.

Is that a picture of one of your babies in your avatar? He/she is cute!

Fenced dog run?

Yeah, that's Molly.:)

I let them out in my backyard to run and play, but it is almost completely covered by large oak trees. All of them over 50 feet tall, so they produce A LOT of acorns.

Maybe I just need to get more squirrels?

do they have chew toys in the house? put something outside for them to chew on as an alternative. the butcher block in your local grocery will give you bones there. maybe if you have something more desireable outside to chew on they will chew it instead, just a thought.

I cant say that I have ever caught my dog eating acorns, but I usually catch my dog eating grass and he loves to gobble down tissues, he loves tissues. I was baby sitting my younger nephew about a month ago and apprently he figured out that my dog liked to eat tissues and I caught him hand feeding them to my pup.

Used Tissues, My wife's stockings, those dish scrubby things,
The outside dogs eats Grass to get nutrients they need.
Never acorns... We have dozens of huge Live Oaks, and this time of year the yard is covered with acorns.

Have you ever been standing outside and have one dink you on the Head? ouch !

they're not the chocolate covered ones are they?

I haven't been hit on the head, bgut Molly has. She was outside sniffing the ground and one fell and hit her. She took off running, then she came back and looked up in the tree and started barking.:FRlol: :FRlol: :FRlol:

I did have a squirrel almost fall on me one morning. I was going out to my truck and I guess he landed on a rotten branch and down he came. That is not something you want to hear at six in the morning when you are half asleep.:(

try carrying a handfull inside and spraying with bitter apple.....spread them thru the house......thry will learn that ALL the acorns inside taste like crap and they will extrapolate that to outside
