Dog/cat food consumption

Is dog/cat food unhealthy for human consumption? The ingredients list "crude protein". What is that? Dog food has tons of protein in it.
What do you think??:jenscat

Goddess have mercy, no, don't even joke. First of all, crude protein is NOT a complete protein, they're talking overall nitrogen content. Not to mention that they put some of the most horrifying things in the cheaper pet foods. Any pet food that is cheaper than sale supermarket chicken is going to be absolute, complete shit (literally, no I'm not joking). Put it this way, assholes and earlobes would sound yummy. Pets shouldn't even be fed the cheap pet food.

ok ok. but what about the brands that arent cheap. can it make you sick
If you search the internet you can find several sites that address this question, this bit sums the facts up reasonably well: "There’s no official record of how many people dine on crunchy kibble or mushy canned pet food, but the act is probably as harmless as eating table scraps. Why? Most pet food is made from food humans won’t stomach, slaughterhouse leftovers such as organs, blood, and offal like the trim from hides (an indigestible but harmless filler). Many dry and wet dog pet foods also contain rice, wheat and other plants, not to mention added vitamins and minerals."

However, there is simply no good reason to eat pet food (other than twisted curiosity or if you lose a bet). The good stuff is actually substantially MORE expensive than regular supermarket fare.

Most pet food is made from ingredients that are not human grade, meaning they are not intended for human consumption. The foods that are made with human grade ingredients are very expensive. Protein powder would be cheaper.
