Does this Offend you?

This is an editorial cartoon that was posted on the NYT website then pulled because of people calling in complaining.

I don't care for it either...it stereotypes them as a whole.....I'm sure 99% of them would rather have their loved ones back.

Offend me? No. I would be offended if I was in the situation.

Disturbing? Mildly. I can't believe they think they can make light of the subject in that sense..............totally uncalled for, rude and disrespectful. Bad taste.

I does not offend me, but it's heartless and cold and it deserved to be pulled. IMO

mathematically speaking..since 50% of marriages end in divorce..roughly 50% of the widows are possibly better off..subtract out a few percentage points for those marriages that had yet to unwind

depends on the true feelings of those involved... only they know wether this is offensive or not.

I think everybody is involved, one way or another.....

to some extent yes, but what i was saying is that thr true feelings of those collecting the money. I hate that people can be like that but it is a fact of life that some people would sell their children just for some green.

no and they shoukdn't be. Why do we owe them moneyany way?

Someone finally has balls enough to ask this!

It's a classic case of the Aboline Parodox moving on a mass scale.

My point exactly! They will get an average of $250,000 I heardfor doing nothing but going to work in an office.

The dead servicemen will have disbursed to their spouse or kids or whomever they chose $300,000 in life insurance they had to pay for.

How about the Navy Seal that was executed the other day? Shouldn't his family get extra taxpayer money?

And am sure Daniel Pearls honey bunny will get taxpayer compensation for his murder as well.

I don't think the cartoon is in bad taste cause of the talk of money, I think it's in bad taste as a whole.......
Maybe go read the thing again.......

Who decided money should be raised for the families involved in 9/11 anyhow? Maybe those same ppl should get going on raising money for the families of the service men in Afghanistan who are now coming home in coffins.........

Mk - organizations like the Red Cross used 9-11 as a tool for fund raising. That's what they saw it as and it has since snowballed into the U.S. Congress getting into the game by trying to establish the 9-11 VCF with our tax dollars. The families would get an avg of $6.1 million each as long as the SIGN A WAIVER TO NOT SUE THE AIRLINES!!!

Plus you also now have many of the women who lost husbands parading around the talk show circuts and proclaiming that the $6.1 mil. just isn't enough!

WTF? Go pound sand! Sorry you lost your husband but this shit happens everyday 24/7. More people died THIS WEEK on America's Interstate system. Where's they're Fund?

I agree with ya, Wodin.....I do...but, that's not the whole point of the cartoon......IMO, the cartoon is about the whole 9/11 happening, which I think is in bad taste.....if it was only bout the money, then I wouldn't have an opinion...

I agree that it's in bad taste but I was suprised that a publication like the New York Times which is known for basically throwing shit in our faces and saying "SMELL THAT!" would pull anything.

i dont get why these people are being called hero's. it's not like they signed up to die for our country like people in the military. it is just more of this 'feel-good' bullshit. people are so fucking lame.

well, maybe it hit abit too close to home......it's understandable.....

Yeah, 6.1 million? For going to work? I die and my family gets $750,000 and I gotta pay for that insurance. Now I gotta pay for them too? Talk circuits, etc, what a scam.

Is it offensive? Yes.

Should it have been pulled? No.

Isn't this the same censorship that everyone on this board bitches about every day?

Agreed, what the fuck is that shit about? Being paid with my money because your family member died? You're not the only one with dead family - who paid the rest of us?

The article is disgusting and so it some of the shit that is comin out of your people's mouths, I think it takes a lot of nerve to say what the survivors of lost ones do and do not deserve. WTF are these people supposed to who have lost their futures, their source of income, their benefits??? I don't think unless you've been involved on a first hand basis you should make any judgement.

Casulities of war and suffering veterans well thats a whole different topic in itself in which I do agree that their should be more compassion and financial consideration for these people.

oh and I'm not exactly saying this article is wrong to some extent but its still fuckin tasteless. Have some fuckin respect. IMO :)

Innappropriate for New York Times,
Rolling Stone - maybe.
Bill Maher and "Politically Incorrect" - definitely.
The drawings remind me of "SPY vs. SPY"

Wodin...no it doesn't offend me. This country is so politically correct it makes me sick. If you don't like it, don't read it.
Visions, i think you are missing Wodin's point. Of course, it was a tragic loss of life, but that is not the issue. Anytime life is lost it is tragic to their loved ones. People die everyday, how is the loss more "tragic" if it was in the WTC or on the freeway? Either way there are familes without loved ones, income, etc. However, this does not mean that the rest of society owes them something.

No I understand your point, but to see these families lose their security. I think it is right for our nation to take care of the families who have lost the ability to provide through tragedy, your right in the sense why is this different then a car accident or a any accident that results in death, who knows? I've just seen it firsthand so its easy to sympathize and feel the pain of those who have lost at the same time understanding the financial impact it has had on their lives.

I also agree with you this country is ridiculously, annoyingly politically correct. I don't know I just think there is a time and a place for everything, again not to say this should not be printed, I just don't agree with it.

6.1 million is too much. This is my opinion however. The cartoon portrays one of the people who had a relative lost in WTC...it does not necessarily stereotype all of them but makes the statement that some maybe taking it this way. There are people in America and in the world who die everyday and thay don't get dick all. This happens to everyone. Of course if you saw this firsthand you would agree with them getting money, who wouldn't. It's called bias. Not to incriminate you, but people that are biased don't seem to see things objectively.

visions,

Pretend that your father died in a horrible car accident when you were only 10 years old. He was the only one making money for the family, and not that much to begin with. Let's also pretend that the only people left in your immediate family were you and your disabled mother who cannot work.

Need help?

Too fucking bad - your father wasn't killed in a terrorist attack.

It's neither fair nor right to see excessive millions of taxpayer dollars going to help the families of the WTC events when thousands more families suffer every day just as bad or worse and don't get any help.

No you guys are totally right and make many valid points. Its a fucked up world and definitely not fair. Believe me these fuckin people who are drivin a brand new mercedes a month after their loved one/s died makes me fuckin ill

I agree it is a fucked up world man...If everything was fair they would compensate people for being born into poor families but unfortunately that's not the way things work...
