Possible causes of BPH- 1.serum Estrogen/androgen ratio 2. local metabolism at the prostate tissue involving 3HSD ,17HSD, 5AR and its conjugates of diol's diones, epimers.
3. insulin/glucose
4. dietary factors, deficiency
5, circulation
6..the list can go on all day
7. other prescription medication.
eat right, exercise, and develope coping techniques for stress...regardless chances are that most mens prostates will enlarge to some degree with age,,,but not everyones will be symptomatic or enlarge enough to where they will be aware..it can be very hard trying to put a foley catheter in a patient with BPH..i then have to get an order to straight cath with a special catherter for BPH a little more stiff for leverage...you dont want to have a TURP done(basicly cutting out a part of the prostate) high amount of sexual dysfunction after the surgery. then I have to do bladder irrigation when the patient is on a med surg unit)......get psa done and digital rectal exams yearly after 40 for prostate cancer
