Does soreness = effetiveness?

Is a workout effective even if you do not feel sore the next day or two?

Sometimes I do not feel sore the day after what I feel was a hard workout. My mucles feel like they've been worked but they do not feel strained. Do I need to increase intensity?

Soreness comes from the negative, do it real slow and your gonna get sore regardless of the exercise :)

if your after hypertrophy then yes use slower negatives, fight the weight on the way down. Exploding it back up will keep the gains functional for strength, even more so with sets of low reps.

for strength/power it doesn't matter so much, and something to avoid if you want to keep bodyweight down.

Does increase recovery time however.

I too often think that i should be more sore after a good lifting session. But even when i dont get the DOMS i am expecting, i know i am making gains because my lifts are getting better each week.

So us "athletic/looking for explosiveness and strength without the bodyweight" type folks should pretty much forget about the whole "lower the weight as slow as you can" thing?

I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but when I ran out of ZMA I got more sore. So if you like getting sore don't take ZMA. I guess it wasn't a placebo effect then since I didn't even notice I had ran out of ZMA until I saw that I was more sore than usual. This was at the end of the cycle BTW, so after the expected soreness from doing a new routine.

You can get sore doing 100 reps, but that doesn't mean you had a good workout. As long as you're adding weight to the bar or you're gaining good weight every week, then don't worry about soreness.

If soreness means so damn much then don't warm up the muscle at all and do some heavy, partner assisted negatives ...voila, soreness without any added growth at all...lucky you huh?

Heres my 2cents.

Being a bit sore (not a lot) after a workout is good. (Unless your a very low volume, high frequncy guy). IMO its a good way of knowing you did you job in the gym.

Being very sore once in a while is okay.

Being sore often is not good at all IMO.
