Does Marijuana ruin lives and entire societies?

This one is for Mrplunkey. I am interested in evidence that Marijuana ruins people's individual lives as well as entire societies.

From what I have read (granted I'm on the pro marijuana side) I don't see evidence that it causes the aformentioned issues with individuals and society.

On the contrary, its actually legal here in California for many uses, which are documented, and have been studied.

I still view it more or less as a recreational drug, but one of the more mild and benign ones. I've seen it do a lot more good for people than not.

Someone mentioned something about economic viability, which I find to be the most unsupported claim because it is used by many, and personally I know 3 people with over 1 million in net worth that are marijuana users. (and I don't know that many millionaires). I don't cite this as hard proof of anything, just as an example of what I've seen in my experience.

I generally don't hang out with a lot of hardcore drug users, so I haven't seen a lot of detrimental effects from marijauna (but I have from other drugs, including alcohol).

Well, granted, I would be offering anecdotal evidence, but I can tell you that it ruined my childhood. Having a high mom is NOT FUN! Having a mom who spends the rent money on weed is not fun! Having a mom who gets you evicted every 6 months or so is not fun. Being ignored for weed is not fun. Shall I continue? Men, booze, weed, money...

Do you think that if weed wasn't a factor at all, that all of the issues you had would have beeen resolved? Were the issues a result of the weed use, or was that just one of many contributing factors? (in your opinion)

no but laziness does.

Holds people back similar to alcohol. When I drank too much or smoked to much at times in my life I didn't get shit done.
Seems like the only reason weed is illegal is because you take a joint from a stoned guy they say , "heyyyyyyy man that's not cool".
You take a beer from a drunk and you're gettting knocked the fuck out!

I'm speaking from my own experience here. Before my mom got introduced to weed, she was the most loving, doting mom you could possibly imagine. She was very much like I am with Devin. Granted, she had my father then to keep her on the straight and narrow, pay the bills, etc. When my lousy stepfather introduced her to drugs, she just became lousy. Plain and simple, my childhood was a nightmare and I attribute a HUGE portion of that to drugs.

Then, there was the fun part of watching a 58 year old woman scream in pain, dying of lung cancer, having to wear diapers and getting bed sores.

Yeah, I'll skip the pot.

I agree to an extent. Laziness is so subjective. I enjoy a healthy amount of relaxation, more than some, but less than others. Lazy could be anything less than maximum effort, correct?
