Does constant hunger mean not enough calories?

Depends on what your goals are. If I'm bulking and I get hungry I know I'm not eating enough to gain. When I'm cutting though I'm always starving by the time I eat.

If I'm getting hungry frequently, does that necessarily mean I'm not getting enough calories? It may sound stupid, but are there other reasons to feel hungry?

If you are a huge obese person who feels hungy all of the time, causing you to eat food all day to fuel your obsession, then you could hardly say that you are not getting enough calories.

It could also mean that you do not eat frequently enough.....maybe enough calories....but too long between meals.

I think it does. People who are obese don't eat because they're hungry.

Yeah, I agree, they could be filling a void in their life.

sry but I disagree. I was obese (about 253 pounds) and I didnt eat because I had a void in my life. I ate cause... I love eating and didnt know when to stop

sometimes its just a matter of bad habits

but I'm not taking the credits of that "theory", its quite true actually. there are a lot of peeps who take out their feelings on food. some do it with booze, some with violence, some with food

about your constant hunger, checking the insulin levels seems about right. but insulin is not the only hormone which leads to being hungry. if you find that your hunger is above normal, check an endocrinologist

Hunger is a very poor indicator of whether tou've had enough calories or not

I get hungry every 1.5 hours, no matter how much I eat. Small meals wont carry me 30 minutes.

If you have a stretchy and big stomach, it will feel "empty" very fast no matter how many calories you intake.

I consider myself truly hungry when I experience hunger pains and when I have that empty feeling in my stomach.

For me the true battle is resisting my appetite and cravings -- this is a strong desire to eat something because of how it tastes or makes you feel when you eat it.

So if I think I'm feeling hungry, I'll do a mental evaluation and ask myself if I'm experiencing appetite or true hunger.

You can always do the scientific thing and count your calories and monitor your measurements and body weight if you're unsure.

IMO...eat more. The standard rule of 6-8 meals a day still applies.
