Does Bodie Miller really suck?

I've noticed on more than one sports show that the media is pretty down on this guy. Michael Wilbon called him a fraud. I've seen others refer to him as a fake, a flop, etc.

Sure he choked at the Olympics but didnt' he have to be one of the top 3 in his sport in the US to get there in the first place? He can't be a bad skier.

Reminds me of all the hype for decathaletes Dan O'Brien and Dave Johnson before the 92 Olympics. Nike commercials up the ass BEFORE the Olympics. Dan choked on the pole vault big time and had to live with it for 4 years.

He came back in 96 and snagged the Gold.

http://www.danobrien.com/intro.html

Maybe Bodie will do the same.

This would be a non issue except Bodie was talking instead of training and what he had to say didn't sit well with many a mouthpiece. I can see him making a comeback.

wtf is his sport? but regardless, winter sports aren't sports. fucking recreation. sauntering about on skis. pfff.

Bode said and did a lot of things to get attention then when he got it (and couldn't deliver performance) went on about how he didn't want it.

Bode is a VERY good skiier - I don't know many people who could've stayed vertical with their left ski waving around like that.....BUT there are other skiiers better than he is....and the media chose to focus on HIM - ignoring the other American skiiers who are also VERY GOOD like Ligety - and he won gold.

Bode is Bode - he is what he is.....

he was talking shit about lance armstrong. he is the ultimate hater. they had a mic in his face, he was ready to step up to the hate plate and bash armstrong.

And God forbid anyone does that....

a choke job

Just because you know nothing about the sport, don't care about it & thus have no respect for it - doesn't mean Bode "sucks"....

how many medals did he win?

So just because he didn't win any medals means he sucks??

Are you saying that exact thing about Apollo Ohno?? Or any of the other USA Olympians who didn't medal??

Just because someone from the USA goes to the Olympics automatically means they HAVE to medal??

Where's the hate for the other US Olympians who didn't medal??

apollo ohno won in the 500m and i think got medals in others. i don't care for the other us olympians. they weren't talking shit about armstrong. the piece of shit was supposed to be all that and a bag of chips and he didn't show up. he had a chance and he blew it.

Oh ok I see now......he says 1 off the cuff remark about Lance "The Saint" Armstrong and he automatically sucks at his sport?? Well that clears things up remarkably for me.....

regardless, any athlete who is supposed to be all that and doesn't show up is choke artist. maybe he will redeem himself in the olympics but until then, CHOKE.

reminds me of payton manning, the ultimate choke artist. plays great in the regular season and sucks moose cock in the playoffs.

Don't blame Bode for failure, blame the media for overhyping him. Blame yourself for expecting. And most of all, look at your own Monday-morning quarterbacking because if you know so damned much...then go out and do it yourself.

please, you could tell he is an arrogant bastard and came across like it was in the bag. :lmao: the media ran with it. i don't blame them.

Again - his "attitude" or whatever you want to call it, is the way he is.....he hasn't changed or anything.....it's just he has a big mouth & the media, of course, has to capitalize on it....cuz that's what the media does.....

Again - Bode either does GREAT in ski racing or doesn't finish - that's the way he is, Olympics or not....

No. The lesson is people in glass houses should not throw stones and don't pass the buck by bringing up somebody in a completely unrelated sport to take the heat off yourself. What's this "doc" injecting them with that they have to go to Mexico to get? Where steroids are legally purchased, btw.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11134499/

At least four members of the U.S. ski team, including star Bode Miller, have sought treatment in Mexico from controversial orthopedic specialist Milne Ongley, according to ESPN.

Ongley has been credited by some with saving careers, but also banned from practicing in the United States.

Ongley injects patients with something dubbed the "Ongley Solution," which he says is a mixture of dextrose, glycerin, phenol and distilled water.

If that's all that was in it he wouldn't be in Mexico....wake the fuck up.

Which Olympic athlete was all over TV in commercials before and during the Olympics?

Bodie Miller.

Like it or not, that brings with it expectations, and he didn't meet those expectations.

He talked smack
Partied instead of training
Was so out of condition that his (greater?) talent couldn't beat the guys who DID train
Talked more smack about how he really didn't want it anyway

the chance to represent your country with the world's best athletes once every few years is a VERY BIG DEAL and the opportunity of a lifetime..... do you blame people for being pissed at someone who wasted it?

And that is what makes people so disappointed in him.... very unfortunate....

In one of the events after he had botched a couple he was one of the first skiers to go downhill. He had a good run but was panting and out of breath at the bottom. Keeled over even during the interview. The commentator said that it was a sign of just how difficult the course was.

Then the other skiers all came down the course, some with better times, none of them bent over panting.

If he retires now he'll be remembered as a choker, but if he makes like Dan O'Brien did in the nineties (trains hard and returns 4 yrs later) he'll be a great comeback athlete.

stop right there. You nailed it already.

The media hyped the living fuck all out of Bode Miller. They were 6 inches up his colon 24/7 during the entire Games. Constant speculation and commentary about what he might do, what he did, what we think he might have done, what relatives of his childhood friends think he might do.

And regarding Bode's self-aggrandizing Nike spots, who would say no if a Nike rep offered you six figures to do a few 30 second commericals? Only difference between Bode and many other Olympic competitors is that he got offered the deal and they didnt.

Bode got crucified because he's not "aw shucks". When they jammed a mic in his grill he actually responded truthfully, instead of the faux modesty adopted by some other Olympic athletes.

And did he choke? Choking suggesting you are actually even trying. Bode didnt even seem to be trying. Not sure what was going now with the dude, but training, and winning did not appear to even be in the top 10 for him. Every time he DQ'd or did poorly in an event he just shrugged and walked away. I never once saw that "oh fuck" crestfallen look that you'd see on someone who wants something desperately, but chokes under pressure.

The only reason he got offered those deals is because he was the heavy favorite to win based on past performance. He was expected to win numerous gold medals. He didn't even get a bronze. That combined with his remarks left not a lot of sympathy for him, for now.

The American people have short memories though, he could be the media darling again in 2010.

Well that's what's so funny about it too - based on past performance - Bode only finishes, what? 1/3 of his races?? :lmao:

I have no idea, never heard of him before Torino. I assume he had to kick ass in the U.S. trials to make it to the Olympics. If not I have even less respect for the Winter Games.

I would like to see how the list of Gold medalists compares to the list of skiers of the year. That list tells me that high expectations for Miller were justified.

I don't know much about skiing, how many on that list won Gold medals?

We have a total of 4 men's Gold medals in downhill skiing.

First off, it is BODE thank you.

Now as for his ability, Last season he ran away with the worldcup overall championship and I believe he was also number one in the GS. He didn't just beat the competition, he annialated them, winning more races than anyone else.

He does have a reputation of not finishing a race, but when he finishes he usually is in the top 5 positions. Considering there are about 100 other top skiers from around the world, being in the top 5 of every race you finish ain't exactly bad. Winning more events than anyone in the world over the course of a year ain't so bad either.

That list shows top US skiers. Look up top worldcup skiers over the past few years, and Bode is in the top 10 for 2 or 3 of those years, finishing overall number one last season.

I think most of the winter sports are athletic, with curling being an obvious exception.

Look at the summer games though, remember, chess is an olympic event.

Bode can ski, no doubt..
Bode's problem is he just doesn't give a shit if he skies well, wins medals or not.
He has made runs 1/2 drunk or hungover more often than not.
Training hard ? yea, whatever

He's just out to have a good time.
