Does bad squat form work the calves?

I really dont have a coach or anyone with a great amount of knowledge about squats to go ask, besides the internet of course.

I haven't done direct calf work in maybe 2 or 3 weeks. Yet everyday after I do squats my calves are more sore than any other part of my legs. Am I not putting enough weight on my heels? How important is it to keep my shins vertical as opposed to just keeping them behind the tips of my toes?

I believe for parallel form, having your shins as vertical as possible is a must. for ass to floor squats, I think it is near to impossible to have your shins perpendicular to the gorund.

I'm squatting ass to ankles. I've sorta tried to keep my shins vertical, but I cant do it with any real weight on the bar, feels like I'm going to fall back.

if you are new to squatting, you will feel it in your calves. i remember that quite distinctly, especially if you are squatting ATF.

Agreed, your calves are getting worked one way or another. Your calves could just not be used to the stress. That'll prally change in time.
