Does anyone own a bar?

I've been thinking about opening one up. I've found a place in a good location. It's about 5000sqft and the guy wants $3900 a month for it but I think I can get him to give me a better deal because it's been vacant for a while. I live in a state where dancers can get fully naked so it'll probably be a stip bar. How much does it generally cost to get up and going? I will have to serve food so I'll need to set up a kitchen. I can lease the equipment and I can probably get the owner to pay for part of the construction. Any advice is appreciated.

if i were starting one i'd probally not go the strip club route, i think theres alot more money to be made espically if ur near a college town

A long time ago...when I still consumed alcohol....I built my own bar in my basement. Complete with pool table, 2 sofas, 1 love seat and a ton of neons and alcohol related mirrors.

Now it goes unused with a $%&!load of alcohol. You guys need to come over and drink all that stuff for me.

remember... 70% of bars fail. Alcohol permits run about 100,000 from what I remember. PlaN everything out very carefully if you are serious about it. Things can really go either way for you.

I opened a bar about 5 years ago.It did really well the first 4 months but it eventually tapered off.I sold it 9 months after i opened and made a little money. The best advice i can give u is watch the liquor taxes, you can pay a fortune in liquor sales.Try to refill your bottles and ring up alot of your drinks as food or other items.I had to pay 26% on liquor taxes including the 8% sales tax.
Also be careful and watch your waitresses and bartenders from stealing from you.

Actually that statistic varies, market to market. In Missouri 88% of all bars/clubs fail...............

So I consider myself very lucky...................:D
