I can't find the Latin word for tyrant, anybody?

I'd love bully, egomaniac, or megalomania but I think those probably fall under the category of "Illiud Latine dici non potest," which means "You can't say that in Latin."

I really think I'm gonna get me one of those "Teach Yourself" courses ...

I know around a sester's worth of Latin. Redguru seems to know a good deal more than I.

It's a second declension noun. For proper inflection and usage, check out this page:

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/tyrannus

In Latin (or any inflected language) you cannot just use the word -- the ending of the word dictates it's use in the sentence. So tyrannus may or may not be correct, depending on how you wish to use it.

Good song

Ad Astra

I have everywhere sought
and nowhere found
So I lift the bleedin` bodkin
And thrust the grief deepest in

The gleaming bodies of infinite skies
Have for my spirit
The cold charm
Of death`s welcoming eyes
In secret to my soul
They are Ideals of old

Somehow, I knew I would find you in this thread. . .as useful as your spleen :FRlol: . . .that's a knee-slapper.

I've ALWAYS wanted to learn Latin. In highschool we had to take a foreign language, the choices were German, Spanish, French. I looked at my guidance counselor and said, "I'll never use these, why don't they offer Latin so I'd have a better understanding of English and a general grasp of the romance languages?"

NOW they offer Latin.

I use it a lot, I'm in the medical industry, but you can say some fun stuff in Latin and it slides right under the radar
