Does anyone know how to unzip a file on a Linux machine?

Okay. Talk to me as though I know nothing at all about Linux (cause I'm pretty close). What do I type in the xterm window? I understand that I'm mildly retarded so don't even start. Also, could you talk a little bit dirtier to me? Thanks.

If natty says I can I will. It's his file.

You don't know either huh? Do you know who to at least look at pics?

Nah im loop-challenged myself.

As for linux, i dont even know what it looks like. Never touched it in my life.

I haven't unzipped anything on Linux in a while. What is the extension on the file you are trying to unzip? Is it ".gz" , ".Z", ".zip" , ".tar"
Actually what is the whole name of the file you want to unzip?

Depending on the format of compression there's a few different tools you'll have to use. But HS probably already nailed it. Open up an xterm window, type in "man unzip" , hit Enter and read the man page for it. Should just be "unzip <filename>" then you may have a tarball that needs to be unarchived.

i went and got the computer technician dude to do it for me. I lied and totally had him convinced it was work-related. In conclusion, I'm a genius. I also totally have faces to put to the names now. Suckas. :)

I bet it's a winzip file.
Good luck.

If it's not a winzip file, then just type unzip <filename>.

If it *is* a winzip file, then type rm -f <filename>
