Does anyone know about importing workers to do work that no one else can/will? How the hell do you do it?

Please, no flames for exploitation, supposedly these guys get paid normally - but im getting really, really annoyed with contractors giving me a 3 week wait for a quote and needing a 4-5 month lead in time to do something stupendous like tile a fking bathroom (*I* can tile a bathroom. its just that theres only one of me dammit)

does anyone have a clue? surely *someone* on the forum has come into contact with on hire companies or whatever the hell you have to do

in other news, 3 of the chinese suppliers quoting me replaced the 'L' in their emails with an 'R', i cried laughing. rucky thing they courdnt see me giggring, they probably would have got reary annoyed :lmao:

I guess it depends on where you live. I can get shit done here rather quickly, but the quality of the work is always below par. People just do not give a shit anymore.

if it's skilled work - well, the people dicking you aorund obviously know they're worth - and what supply/demand means.

If it's unskilled shit - go to home depot and grab some mexicans.

That's why unions were invented. To force corporations to hire over-priced losers, or risk everyone walking out. One of the main reasons corporate america loves outsourcing shit or buying foreign.

Skilled labor has us by the balls around here. Want someone who knows what he's doing, big $$$. Even half assed work is not cheap. I have a neighbor who does mad business and charges as much as he wants. His claim to fame? He calls you back within 24 hrs and will give you a quote in the next 24 hrs. LOL. The guy is doing so much business i think he may fail. He's a construction guy not a businessman. that's the part he's not good at. I think he's running 10 crews now. Small to mid sized building.

Have someone fax them over from Mexico.

i need skilled workers, and there is a massive skills shortage. i am NOT going to pay a local $400 per day to paint the inside of an apartment, wait 3 weeks for the quote, and have them take 3 weeks to do it.

i need legit, skilled, on hire people.

and there raent mexicans in australia. well, not poor ones anyway. we have border control something fierce. good luck getting in

if they're charging $400/day - then obviously supply/demand is in their favor.

so congrats, you found a money-making goldmine. get people to train as painters, then pimp them out, and skim off the top.

usually market forces eventually hit an equalibrium. i guess there's one portion that hasn't been maxed out yet. :)

its not so much the price - even at $400 a day you can still turn a prot because the housing boom is sitll going strong as hell - its just that you cant get them to actually do the work you want and so coordinating is a massive pain in the ass. you cant have a million dollars worth of unfinished building sitting there in the sun while you pay oodles of interest, run your margin down tot he nub, and then find yourself in a spot at the end of construction where you know that if you dont sell the damn things inside of 2 months you go broke and worked the past 8 months for free

I dont think so

anyway I think I found out how to do it - its actually handled by the immigration department along with a couple of major on hire companies. I wouldnt be surprised if I find myself in the newspaper with the same contractors who couldnt find time to return my calls screaming blue murder that they were losing their jobs to overseas workers, as happened last time someone brought over a stonemason

anyway they can go to hell. im doing it and thats that. mofos. hmpf
