Does Anyone Keep their "Word" Anymore?

I mean what is the deal. Have people forgot what that means. I mean when you say you will do something you should do it. But it seems lately that nobody keeps their word anymore.

For instance deadlines, when you tell somebody that you will have something done by such and such a time you should arrange your schedule so you can do just that. But nobody hits deadlines anymore.

So I am starting to wonder if keeping your word means crap in the 2000s. What do ya'll think have ya'll noticed that nobody keeps their word anymore too?

Few keep their word because it is easier to agree to the task
and then not do it, than either doing it or telling you they can't.

Bird bird bird, bird is the word

I try to keep it. I never promise anything unless I know I can do it.

That is cool bro but I guarantee you are an exception to the rule.

How times have changed:

Then

Things used to get accomplished by a promise and a handshake. (Gentlemen's agreement)

Now

Things get accomplished by using lawyers, contracts, notaries, mediators, etc., a promise and a handshake (sometimes). Then dealines are extended indefinitely. Even then, it's not a given that it will be accomplished.

It's the way of the new world.

Maybe I am but you don't have to rub it in sonny. :D

How the heck have you been bro? I hadn't seen you in like forever I thought your computer broke or something.

Hope things are good for you my friend.

Not that good. Me and the ole lady went down on my chopper that I had only three months. And it is taking forever for them to fix it. I need to ride before I stress out if you know what I mean.

I try to keep my word. The only time I don't is when the person I gave my word to doesn't hold up there end of the bargain, thus making our verbal contract null and void.

Cool thread. These days, it seems that having a conscience can be a liability. You see the liars, cheaters and backstabbers getting ahead faster, and they're not losing any sleep over it. What's even worse is if they're caught, they won't admit to doing anything wrong - they say something like "I didn't lie, you misunderstood me..." (nothing's EVER their fault!)

Even so, I still keep my word, it's how I was raised. My father used to say "a person is no better than his or her word" or something like that. I think not keeping one's word may get them something in the short term, but in the long term, it'll come back to haunt them.
