Does anyone feel secure in their job?

OK, my company fired one of our long time employees. They re-wrote her job description and said that she didn't have the skills. The part that bothers me is that she is qualified for other positions within the company and we are hiring for those positions but they didn't offer to transfer her to another department.

I keep thinking about buying a home but then I look at things like this and think "I could get canned at any minute"

You are never secure in a Job.

Yeah, I feel totally secure. Oh wait, maybe that's because I don't have one anymore, as of today.

now I will be able to 'LOL @ people who work' right alongside chaos mange.

The greedy bitches in my union voted to not accept the company's offer of a 3% per year raise, for the next 3 years.

Now I may be locked out of work come Monday. Our current agreement ends May 1st.

These people are the highest paid (in this field) workers in this city. Doing the same job at any other plant in this city would result in, at least, a 20% reduction in wages.

Greedy bitches.

yea I am secure, its the only good thing about working for the govt, especially the part I do. I would make more money in private sector.

I have a degree in geology. I've been considering trying government work with the Corps of Engineers or the USGS. The only problem is they don't seem to be doing a lot of hiring.

It makes me nervous when I see employees here at my company receive an award for their work one week and then they are fired the next.

This morning I ran into the guy who hired me for my first gig in NYC, two careers ago. Hadn't seen him in eight, nine years. We both had a chuckle over the poor fools at the old company, who greet each other with "Got a job?" "I'm good till August!" (You might recognize the company from that... but neither of us works there any more, THANK GOD!)

The big wheel keeps on turnin', Proud Mary keeps on burnin'.

I do.

:)

Get into a revenue generating position, or a position that is vital to the company's product or service. Or executive management.

If not -- you'll always be seen as an expense, and "expendable" if need be.

Just get the house.

Have enough in savings to pay your mortgage and important bills for 3-6 months.

My worry is that I'm working for a retailer and the product line that I am involved in is somewhat struggling making only a small profit. The rest of the company is doing OK. I am trained in other areas of the company. Everytime they offer optional training in other skills I volunteer. I figure I'm safer if I know how to do a variety of tasks.

There was an article in my local paper last week about how HR people were putting people in positions that they know will cause them to quit or at least give them an air tight reason to fire the person. One woman was in California and she seemed to take pride in all the things she did to get rid of people. It blew my mine that they went about it in such an underhanded way.
