I have runners knee and a small bone spur in my knee and to speed up the healing process he gave a steroid as he called that won't give me any nasty side effects like those others one;s was his comment, but it's a patch with a battery that uses a current to give off the steriod to only that certain area? any idea what steroid he was using? by the way the patch comes off every 24 hours and I go to Pt to get a new one.

hehe, I love these kinds of posts. Sounds like a corticosteroid to me as well, they are used for inflamation, which by the way is a key element to healing. Corticosteroids are also very catabolic and do have plenty of nasty side effects.

Its definitely a corticosteroid you're talking about. Essentially, its an analog of the hormone 'Cortisol'... which is the enemy of bodybuilders. Getting it by a patch should save you from some of the sides you'd get if you were taking the medication orally: bloat, mood-swings, depressed immune system, muscle catabolism, etc.

I'm currently on 15mg of Prednisone ED to resolve a pulmonary embolism(blood clot)that developed in my Lung following a Kidney biopsy I had in early February. Prednisone is a nasty(oral)corticosteroid... just knowing the potential side effects, I can't wait to bin it. I'll probably be able to go off of it this weekend. At 15mg ED, I've been fortunate enough and suffered FEW sides: mood swings is about it. My physique is nice and hard... no bloat to report yet. I've also noticed an increase in energy while on it.

Corticosteoids can make you bloat, increase apetite, catabolic and also suppress the imune system big time. On low dose for short periods of time not a problem but I was training through its use for many months and it was hell, I was on upwards of 80mg/ed for swelling retna and everytime we tried to taper off retna would swell up again which meant back on at full dose and a couple times I even got cortisone injections in the eye socket, not fun at all!!! They sting like bitch.

ouch! felt that from HERE...
Yeah, they sting, feels liek someone tossed sand in yer eye for a day afterwords too. Ive had three of them over a year period. He either has ya look up or down, pulls the eyelid back and slides the needle in between the eyeball and socket :(
