Do you train when sick?

My nose is running and my throat hurts but I really want to get in the gym. It would be more detrimental to lift than stay home and recoup wouldn't it or am I just being a bitch?

yeah you are being a biatch

j/k

you should go work out, stop making excuses

btw you'll feel much better afterwords <promise>

Go and see how ya feel after a while. If you feel like crap then just go home.
Your body will tell ya what to do just listen to it.

Yeah I hit the gym while being sick, I felt good during but afterwards I felt like complete shit. I actually got a little more sick the next day. I'm waiting for this flu/cold thing to go away.

If its just a runny nose or a simple cold stfu and lift.
If youve got a bug and feel like vomiting dont.
I trained like that once, and was the worst training session ever.
Not to mention stalled my proggress and couldnt lift as heavy weights.

Wow, I guess I am the only one who thinks you should stay home and take a couple of days to get over it. Going and lifting sick only brings 2 things, you spreading that shit to everyone around you and the equiptment you use AND you wake up even worse the next day. Quite stressing your body bro, not worth it ! Get better and then come back !

if its a simple cold then lift, if you havae body ache, fever, or a bug stay home, you wont be able to get your regular workout in, and your just going to be more sick the next day which will take you out of the gym longer

I agree. It's not right for people to go to the gym sneezing and blowing germs around for everyone else to catch.

How important are a few workouts, or a few weeks here and there in the grand scheme of things? It amazes me that people can't rest the body from time to time and feel good about it. Usually the reason why a person catches a cold in the first place is because their immune system is compromised in the first place...often a result of overtraining.

If I feel like training...I train.

I do things differently though.

I don't go for new PR's.
I don't go crazy in the gym (I go crazy a lot).
I drink LOTS of extra water and electrolyte drinks.
I take an extra multivitamin pre and post workout.
Extra Vitamin C before and after.
Extra warm clothes, changing clothes immediately post workout.
5 g glutamine before and after workout.
...and whatever it takes to get me through it. I have some really good lidocaine throat spray I use when I have a sore throat.

I really think lifting while sick kept me sick longer the last time I was sick. I would always feel worse the next day. After I just couldn't get well, I took a break from squats and deads, and stared feeling lots better.

If you are sick enough to be on antibiotics, I wouldn't train.

I'm with B fold here. If I feel good enough to train I do, if I don't I don't. I took last friday off because I felt like shit.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Well i have been out of the gym since Saturday :(. I don't want to get others sick and I don't want to get my self sicker by losing more water. This blows.

just to put it into perspective, i wouldnt leave the gym, kept pushing it, and my weights were going down and i was getting sicker.

went to the health center and they said coughing up blood wasnt normal for people with colds.

so like b-fold and scotts...go if you can, but dont lie to yourself and convince yourself you can when you really shouldnt. judge your own body wisely
