Do you talk to yourself outloud? Do you answer yourself?

I recently read that this is not necessarily a sign of mental illness. My grandmother use to do it all the time. I could hear her talking to herself as she was walking around the house. I have always done it and often answer myself. I knew that I was not insane, despite what some thought. HAHAHAHAHA.

I do it when I've got a lot of things I'm trying to get done quickly. Like when I'm getting ready for work, have to pack the gym bag, make sure the kid's ready for school, take my sups, find my phone, turn off the coffee pot, make lunch, etc. When I'm running around in circles it helps to stay on track when I verbalize.

ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THAT TALKING TO YOURSELF IS A SIGN OF MENTAL ILLNESS IS IGNORANT. THEY PROBABLY ALSO BELIEVE THAT SHOE SIZE CORRELATES TO DICK SIZE AS WELL.

...as is typing in all caps......

YES INDEED! I TALK TO MYSELF ALL THE TIME! I'M THE SECOND PERSON TO MYSELF.:twirl:

But if you do it in front of people, like sitting in your car in traffic, people assume that you're crazy. It's not socially acceptable behavior. I don't even care anymore. If someone sees me doing it, I don't act embarrassed or stop. I continue on, how dare them interupt me taking to myself. That is just plain rude.:D

Yes I do it when I get horribly stressed or am trying to keep track of multiple parts of a computer program in my head....but then Im confident Im bordering on the edge of insanity recently.

I totally have whole conversations with myself. I ask, answer, make sarcastic comments, make faces, etc to myself. But I am a very stressed person, maybe that is why. And I ramble. :)

Understandable.

I create arguments for different facets of my personality to debate. It leaves me more than prepared for many topics I would have otherwise not have paid any attention to. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending upon how one looks at it, it leaves me with a sense of ambivalence towards many topics. That breeds hesitation, which can suck at times when you want to take a position.

However, in my experience, the majority of the times I have been relegated to hesitation, the pause gave me time to avoid saying anything prematurely and sabotaging the side of the argument I was ultimately going to support. It allows for the opposition to trip over its own thoughts.

Yes, I know. I'm a psycho.

I talk outloud to myself all the time; if I didn't, I wouldn't have anyone to talk to.
