Do you play an instrument?

I tried to play guitar...I suck at it....needs too much time to learn and I have no time

I've been playing violin/fiddle for close to 20 years - all disciplines.

I want to learn piano and acoustic guitar before I get arthritis; so I do have some time. :)

I played the saxophone as a kid. We had to play an instrument. I got pissed and broke it cause I couldn't play it if my life depended on it. I payed the school $600 damages.

Playing guitar for around 16 years now. I just recently started a project of my own, have my own recording equipment & software. My fav. band is Iron Maiden, but my fav. music is Death/Black Metal, also what I play.

I play the piano, electronic keyboards, and also mix records on turntables (yes *proper* techno mixing is much like an instrument in its own right as you are creating by manipulating)

played the guitar for 20 years.

im a great rhythm guitarist; pretty bad at lead b/c i dont understand music theory (either that, or i just subconsciously refuse to learn it).

play mostly by ear.

Guitar, jazz, rock, and a bit of classical. I also started piano for in my music program. Its making me better at guitar, as far as understanding music.

Used to play guitar years ago. Didn't get very good and ended up quiting. Now I mix records (sorta an instrument) and am starting to make music electronically, so getting used to the keyboard.

I have been playing guitar since I was a wee fella. I recently bought a Martin D-28. I have been dreaming about buying this guitar for years and I was finally able ($$$$$) to buy one. It is hard to put her down. My next investment will be a Gibson 68 Les Paul Custom with the 5a quilted top. Sweeeet

I play guitar, badly, I've been attempting it since late 1966.

I just took my old Telecaster to the shop for a refret.

Played piano (keys) since I was 4yrs old... also play guitar, bass, drums, harp, pretty much anything if you give me 30 mins with it. Music is definitely a huge passion of mine! I also used to spin vinyl here in Atlanta at some of the clubs downtown and some after parties. Unfortunately sold all of my equipment and entire record collection for a now ex-wives engagement ring. Amazing i know.... more ignorant then anything

I've played the drums since 2nd garde and i play in a band.

9 Piece DW Emerald onyx kit with gold hardware, zildian crashes paiste hats and ride, sabian paragon splashes and chinas. (kinda like neil pearts set up).

I'm a drumming fanatic :)

i been playing guitar for about 7 years. bass for about 6, and just recently started learning the violin and keyboards. i started out playing southern and classic rock and srv style blues, but recently ive been getting in to a lot of classical music, and metal stuff. music is my primary hobby actually.

9-piece? Shit, all anyone needs is a kick drum, snare, 1 rack tom, 1 floor tom, hats, two crashes and a ride. If you can't say it with that, it's not really worth saying.

Do you set your toms flat, or do you tilt them like search beacons?

can play, but don't play much anymore. at one time I was a pretty good trumpet player. Like anyother brass instument, if you don't play often, your sound goes to shit...

I place 'em relatively flat. As flat as possible without hitting the rims. I hate how people slant them so much. It looks like shit, and the bounce plays like shit like that too. Look at neil pearts kit. It looks very similar.

I play progressive rock which requires alot of different sounds IMO. high toms to low toms. It gives me a broader area to be creative and play what sounds best. Hearing the same tom go in fills over and over again in every song sounds gay I think. Lots of bands just need someone to lay down a sick tight beat, and you only need a 4 piece for that. My band like to complex big feels and synchopations that require more pieces of percussion to acheive a more attractive sound. It's all in the taste.

Bands like RUSH, TOOL, Dream Theatre all have huge drum kits.

IMO Neil Peart is the shit. His drum playing has inspired me so much. I know it's almost cliche' to say that about him, but he really has. RUSH has been my favorite band since I was 4 years old.

Go play a 4 piece. Snare, bass rack and floor, then go play a set with 6 toms and 4 crashes, splashes and chinas and come back and tell me it isn't 10 times more fun and exciting to play a kit like that rather than the basic jazz setup, as well having the option to explore new sounds and possibilities.

To apoint I agree..but a great drummer and make a (4) four peice sound like a 7 peice or 9 for that matter.

FOR fun..hell ya..9 peice set..I could play with for hours....unless you are in a band like Rush or Yes..or Dream Theater..you wont play all 9.

I don't see how a great drummer can make a set sound bigger the way you desribe it. Sound great, sure, but a 4 piece will never have a "big set" sound. I play all my pieces in most songs. Some songs I only use the standard 4 piece cuz that's all I need cus it fits the song, but some songs just got to have a huge roll on 6 toms, high to low. Sounds badass  It's really an 8 piece set, but I put my other kit's 16" floor on the left side to give me another option for sound, so it's a 9 piece, but the DW is only 8 pieces.

I'll upload a pic.

These pics were taken with my camera phone, so the quality sucks. It doesn't do the finish justice. Also, this is when I first set it up, and it has been moved around a bit. Cymbals lowered in some spots, my double bass pedal is on there now. The X Series shell in the bass drum has a super low tone to it and sounds incredible mic'd. The whole set sounds so sick.

Looks good bro, I cant see pic real good, not Plt member..but form what I can tell, it takes up some space! LOL... the X series can get a good tone out of them,,,,Hopefully you have a GOOD mic and not a cheap one.

AKG D112.

The tone in the bass drum is so nice. It seriously has the same low tone as a 24, but it's a 22. The floor toms are VLT, and the 16" sounds really low. Incredible sound. I have the ESE system on the rack toms, and they resonate so nicely and the tone is pristine. I have to re-tune them though. That's always a pain.

I play keyboard (make rap beats) and i can play a little of evereything, mostly by ear. And acoustic guitar by ear.
