Do you mean it when you tell someone...

It's what's on the inside that counts?

You hear people say that all the time, yet you wonder if they really mean it.:(

I'm asking because I was talking to a lady the other day and she was telling me about talking with people on-line. How they liked talking to her until they found out that she was a little over weight. Then they just disappeared or ignored her. I felt so sad when I heard this. I mean are we that shallow of a society?

I look at someone for who they are, not what they look like, I married my wife because she is awesome, she has a very big heart and is a wonderful person. If god forebid something ever happened to her and her face or body was messed up , I would still love her for her just being her. I have found my soul mate:luxlove:

sorry to be the pessimist but yes, our society is as superficial as can be. The majority does not cares about what is on the inside as long as the outside looks good. It has always plagued us because perfectionism is just so damn popular, its what drives people to plastic surgeons, its what makes people buy overpriced clothes, it is in my opinion that apperance is overrated, just because physical attraction exists does not mean you will connect in a way in which you can love that person,.

when you are that shallow your capacity for emotion is drained from you. It is only when you realize how special each and every person is and what makes each person different and unique from the next that you can truely open your eyes to love.

Yes we are. And for proof, you need look no further than in the hallowed boards of Elite Fitness. I really enjoy talking to people on this site, but sometimes the superficial arrogance displayed here is laughable.

When I say it, I honestly do mean it as far as whether or not I would be your friend, no matter what you looked like. When it comes to being friends, all that really does matter to me is what is in their mind and heart. Things get a little bit more fuzzy when it comes to dating...looks are going to play a little more of a role, in addition to what is on the inside. But more often than not, when someone is confident with who they are on the inside, they become more attractive on the outside as well.

Man, it's human nature to appreciate and be attracted to a beautiful human form. Hell, have you ever noticed that the ring leader of a group of guys is usually one of the better built, better looking ones?

Babies have been observed to stare at pictures of more beautiful faces ("beauty" being determined by the degree of facial symmetry.) longer than less attractive ones.

Ugly people shouldn't be mistreated, but appreciation and attraction to beautiful people should not be denied.
