Do you have a workout partner

For the first 4 years, it was solo for me and there were numerious advantages. My workouts went alot faster, reducing my time at the gym and my intensity was higher. I could also show up at anytime. The last four years with a partner has had a few advantages, I seemed to push myself harder to keep my lead on lifts. This however can sometimes be dangerous, because of pride, I have seen many people get hurt over my years of bodybuilding. My partner was out for a few months for dislocating both of his shoulders while attempting to catch my deadlift. It's nice to have a spotter. I still would prefer to work out alone. My body always aches a lot more due to the intensity increasing when working out solo. The dude, I worked out with is strong but he takes way to much time to get in the zone. Just lift the shit for christ sakes. Do you have a workout partner and how do you get rid of one if you feel they are holding you back, without hurting their feeling.

Ever since I started training with another member of the board, the intensity of my workouts has sky-rocketed. I have increased most of my lifts by close to 100lbs in 6 months as a result. We are supportive of the other, helping them to hit their marks, but at the same time there is no way that mother fucker is going to get more reps than me. Even when we don't train together, we compare notes, which also motivates.

I haven't had a good partner in a while. But lately my roomate has been helping since our schedule is similia this semsester. It always help to have a competent partner. I don't feel we slow down at all plus the benefit of getting those last few reps with some help really makes you grow and progress.

I work a strange schedule so it's hard to find someone that works the same schedule. I just go it alone and I like it . I can move at my own pace, nobody slowing me down or I'm not slowing anyone down.

I workout alone now, but sometimes wish that I had a partner that was competent so that we could push one another and pump out the forced reps witch I don't get without a partner. I tend to jump back and forth over the fence with how I feel. I need the intensity that i bring to the gym to be as high or higher and I don't need a partner lagging behind me.

jus' tellin' it like it is...

Be sure to have someone who is close to your abilities or the constant weight change will slow the workout. But other than that, I wouldn't be as intense without my partner. When one of us is not in the zone, the other will pick him up. I can honestly say for the past year with a partner, I have not dogged one workout. Even the maintanence cycles are intense and thorough. Sounds like this guy may be in the wrong level at this time to work out with you. Use this time he is gone to find another partner and then tell him, you moved on. lol.

No. I have a very specific routine, and have injuries that I must train around as well. It would be a problem to work with someone who would, and probably should, do something different.

Plus, I cannot stand people talkiing to me when I workout. I spend enough time listening to idiots as it is.

My workout partner is an old high school friend who can pack on the muscle but he's too fricken lazy. He has a big gut to. Now we just do are own things but spot each other when ever we can.

there are pros and cons for each method.

personally, i have lifted alone always with a few minor exceptions. this is b/c i have a pretty odd workout schedule around my classes, and the exercises i do are not usually done by my friends (i.e. deadlifts, squats, and lateral raises with 8-10lb dbs)......

I always lifted alone, it's a huge advantage since you can take your time. Also, when you have those shitty ass days it's nice knowing your not subjecting anyone else to your negativity. My old man was the one that got me into the sport but we never lifted together, just simply talked about our routines. One day he complained of getting a shit spot while having one of his better days. Being a veteran of over 30 years and former Mr. Illinois he felt the need to just talk about it constantly. I finally told him to shut his mouth, that I would get a membership to his gym and start going with him. I thought it would be a chore to go with him, boy was I wrong. After just 2 months of training under his unbelievable experience I started to get some of the best pumps ever and was getting ripped. I now look forward to those 3 days a week I bodybuild with the old man, lol. All I have to suggest is if you decide to get a partner get one with tons of experience.
