Do you guys do this ab excersize?

Nobody? Oh well. I use to do a lot of ab exercizes and i never really got a good work out, not even the weighted ones, like crunches, leg raises, etc....

Man, i tried to do ONE of these for the first time, and fell flat on my chest. I did one without falling, and my abs were sore for a week.

I've reached 10 reps now, 3 sets, i usually do this 3 or 4 times out of the week. My abs never get the same amount of burn or workout from anything else.

While it may use your abs, it looks like it's using them for stabilization (kind of like the way they get worked when you work on a crunch ball). The hamstrings, lower back, glutes and hip flexors are doing a percentage of the work

Bear in mind, soreness is not necessarily an indication of a good workout, some people suffer from more DOMS than others. It's DAMNED hard to work your abs to the max. Hanging leg lifts and weighted crunches, properly done, IMO are the best isolation ab movement with limited risk of injury, but I could be wrong, I have been before, my opinions mind you.

It always comes down to the fact that the best exercise is the one you'll do :qt:
 
Yeah man, a lot of the times people don't even do regular ab rolls is because they get lower back pains, but it all depends on how you go down, at which angle, how your position your arms, if you contract the right muscles, etc...

When i do it, i don't feel any strain or pressure on my lower back cuz im focusing on soley isolating my abs. I feel the ab work out from under my chest to the top of my pelvic mound, even in the obliques. The hard part is not going down, it's reaching the point of being horizontal, then contracting your abs so that your body can crunch in, and go back to starting position.

I also do elevated V sets on push bars to hand stands without bending my elbows or knees, its something a lot of gymnast do.
 
I've been meaning to try something like this for a few weeks now. There's an exercise called The Inchworm where you use your hands to walk out to the same position instead of using the rolller.
You're right though, musclemom, it's not an exercise until you do it. I've been in the midst of changing some things up so I've been reluctant to experiment elsewhere. Reading this thread has reminded me. Maybe when I work abs tomorrow. Thanks to both of you for the reminder. :coffee:
 
A lot of the times people can't even do regular ab rollers correctly and they complain about the pain in their backs, i try explaining how to position their arms correctly, and that you don't lean foward with all the weight on your lower back, you go down using your abs, and come back contracting your abs, when you do this right, the contraction of your abs should feel like a spring jolting you back to your starting position.

You could very well have some extremely developed abs (ah, youth)

My back is mechanically very damaged and out of balance under the best of circumstances (my spine is literally FUBAR), so even trying to do an exercise like that, assuming absolutely perfect form, could leave me so screwed up :rolleyes: Hey, like I said, it comes down to doing what works for you! :qt:
