Yeah man, a lot of the times people don't even do regular ab rolls is because they get lower back pains, but it all depends on how you go down, at which angle, how your position your arms, if you contract the right muscles, etc...
When i do it, i don't feel any strain or pressure on my lower back cuz im focusing on soley isolating my abs. I feel the ab work out from under my chest to the top of my pelvic mound, even in the obliques. The hard part is not going down, it's reaching the point of being horizontal, then contracting your abs so that your body can crunch in, and go back to starting position.
I also do elevated V sets on push bars to hand stands without bending my elbows or knees, its something a lot of gymnast do.
