Do you feel bad for the tiger attack victim?

AAP

I don't.

I mean, I did at first... but now that charges of the three guys tormenting and harassing the tiger prior have surfaced, I don't.

The other two deny the charges but won't allow the police to view the photos on their cell phones that they took. (at least that is what I saw on the news the other day).

So if they were indeed aggravating the big cat, I am kind of glad that she got out and kicked some honky ass.

I guess because the human killing the other has a rational thought process that says "damn you know I pull this trigger because of his last yo momma joke and I can kiss the outside world goodbye for the rest of my life."

A tiger ain't got time for shit like that. She be all like, "oh no you dinnit. Stay right there, don't you run. I am coming over there and I am going tear your ass up. Huh? Who the bitch now huh? Who? Why you pissing down your leg? Huh? Fake ass wangsta."

Sure, but does a person really deserve to die for a taunting offense?

If the taunting was aimed at a wild animal that can and will harm the person, the person deserved it. People that would taunt an animal that is being caged against its will shouldn't be reproducing anyways

I don't feel sorry for the person but I do feel sorry for the tiger. First it's taken from the wild, then cooped up in a zoo, and then some jackasses start fucking with it. So it did what tigers do and we kill it for it's trouble.

superdave said:

Natural selection.

They don't "deserve" to die, but the tiger was acting within it's natural instincts, and they were being fucking reckless idiots.

Law of nature bro....can't blame a wild animal for being a wild animal. You can blame people for being stupid.

Then the question is if the victim knew that taunting a wild tiger would lead to a reasonable chance of the tiger killing him. If the victim knew then I dont feel sorry for him.

They underestimated its ability to jump and natural selection took its course. I think it's common sense that a tiger can pwn an unarmed dude's ass and it's best not to give it a reason to attack.

:)

superdave said:

No, but for the chicken shit act of cowardice of taunting and harassing the animal when they "knew" they were safe and no harm would come to them.

Now if they got in the pen with the tiger and harassed it face to face, I wouldn't mind. But this hiding behind the fence and shit and deliberately causing pain and aggravation to a simple beast?

Well, they won't do that shit no more.

superdave said:

Do you think if those cowards knew that tiger could jump that fence they would have been doing that shit? No.

And of course the survivors KNOW they were wrong which is the reason they are not (or were not) allowing the police to view their cell phone pictures. They were taking pics of each other doing shit to the cat.

It's the same principle as people who move into the mountains and have bears or cats eat their pets. If you are going to willingly invade into somethings territory it eliminates your right to bitch and no one should feel sorry for you.

If you aren't smart enough to think that screwing with a 400lb killing machine is a bad idea then you deserve to die and the rest of us are better for it.

Do you feel bad for someone who drives drunk and crashes and dies? They made a bad choice and paid the price for it.

I hate zoos. Why take an animal and put it behind wire and concrete anyways?

If I want to learn about nature and wild animals, I'll go into their territory with properly trained people at my side.

The dudes messed with nature and learned a deadly lesson along the way. I hope the other two idiots do not reproduce more idiots into our society.

I think there shouldn't be any zoos, but yes, they should have made the wall taller.
Either way, cage up a wild animal long enough and it's going to go with it's instict.
When I was a kid, I taunted my cousins dogs and it bit a part of my nose off.
They wanted to have the dog put down and I told them I was bugging the dog real bad. I deserved it and I still have the scar to remind me.

Google news link to a UK newspaper said the two survivors had "catapults" -- what we USA types would call slingshots.

If they had Glocks, I could understand that. But slingshots? At the zoo?

How do you mean? A slingshot wouldn't irritate a tiger?

no, absolutely not. I do not wish death on the person. I simply don't feel sorry for them.

No fucking sympathy, what kind of utter douchebag teases an animal? Jesus that's infantile.

As an aside, every cat I've ever lived with has a very peculiar sense of ego (despite the fact that theoretically they can't think abstractly, lacking anything but rudimentary frontal lobes). Cats are extremely proud animals. Tease a cat, even a cat you own yourself and who enjoys your company, and it gets pissed off. Tease it enough, and it lashes out. In the animal kingdom, it's perfectly acceptable to show someone else when they've crossed a line with you. Humans happen to be squishy and break easily when being taught a lesson, that's all.

what about kids who torment depressed/confused teens in schools? alot of kids arnt fully able to control their emotions especially when constantly berrated with insults and even physical abuse.

then when the kid lashes out and shoots up a school, you dont hear anyone saying "those kids deserved to die and everyone else"

yes the kids are fuckheads for instigating and such, but why cheer for someone else's misfortune/injury?

I don't think you can apply the term "Deserve" to this situation. This is an action/reaction situation, i.e., if you stick your hand in the fire, you're going to get burned. All animals, but in particular large/strong/predatory animals, are like elemental forces. You can CONTROL fire, but shit still happens and you don't FUCK with the fire. You can control a lion or tiger, whether by training by the fact of the animal being confined, but it's STILL a force to be reckoned with, particularly if you FUCK with it, and even the best lion trainers get bitten or killed. Animals, particularly non-domesticated ones, are NOT furry people, no matter how beautiful or cute they are.

These idiots tormented an animal. They shot the fucking thing with slingshots, shit (this may have been a regular Saturday afternoon thing for them). Surprise surprise, the animal did what animals DO and reacted (as for the tiger, killing that moron is probably the most fun it ever had in its entire life). Like Mightymouse said, fuck with the bull, you get the horns. The lesson here is: Don't mess with wild animals, even if they ARE behind big high walls or in cages, and you probably won't get your head chomped off.

I know you're still scarred from your high school experience but you can't compare humans and large predators. :)

I do think people that torment others, humans or large predators, deserve a karmic bitch slap.

I always root for the animals when there up against humans. Watching a bullfighter get gored makes me smile. Sadistic fucks deserve worse.

Good for the cat.

They should have given it a bigger cage and painted it's body count on the wall of the pen.

But no we kill it for being a cat and the retards that survived are still around to reproduce.

I think they shot it mainly because there were still people in the zoo and it posed a very serious threat to many innocents. I don't think they would have shot it if it had climbed back into it's enclosure after mauling the idiots.

That may have been the case but it's common practice to exterminate any animal that attacks a human. Had it jumped back into it's enclosure it would have been euthanized.

Yup. Someone who wants to assert their Second Amendment rights with a real weapon, that's one thing. But a slingshot? Get real. The only explanation is that they were there to tease, annoy, and hurt captive animals.

Report goes on that the kid who was killed didn't participate; he was seen making faces as if to say "I know these guys are assholes, but what can I do?" He didn't stop them, he didn't talk them out of it, he didn't call 911 on them, and he died.

Do you feel like dying because your drinking buddies are assholes?

Its one thing to not feel sympathy, its another thing to wish death on the kid.

Even if the kids were tormenting that tiger all day, if I have the chance to stop the kid from being killed, I would in a heartbeat.

:whatever: I can see some shades of gray; the kid who died was apparently brave enough to stand by his buddies and try to ward off the tiger, apparently decent enough to not join in torturing the beast in the first place -- but not quite decent enough or brave enough to stand up to his buddies and put a stop to their monkeyshines before they got going.

That's the lesson to take away, in my opinion. ALL of you young guys, going out to clubs and getting sucked into fights? You need to do a better job choosing your friends. If your buddy pulls an asshole move, remember he may be putting your life on the line. Tigers are rare; Glocks aren't.

Pussy. I would've throw the little bastards in the pen so the tiger wouldn't have had to jump out!

I feel bad that the tiger was killed before she could complete her task of destroying ALL of her taunters.

People often make the mistake of thinking animals are capable of reasoning the way humans are. Things are a certain way in their world and for the most part humans are incapable of understanding that. The tiger didn't "reason" to herself about anything. She didn't know what repercussions she may face. She couldn't. She was under attack, and she fought back. It was instinct.

This tiger was the alpha tiger of her "pack". She was doing what comes natural in the animal world of not only defending herself, but her pack as well. Maybe this was not the first time they taunted her, but the first time her adrenaline was pumping enough to make her able to jump out of her pen. Imagine what it must've taken for a captive tiger (captive all her life by the way) to accomplish this! All the experts say it should NOT have been possible. Yay Tatiana (the tiger)!

Think of this, if those guys were in the wild jungle domain of tigers and came across a group of tigers at a distance...would they taunt them (assuming they were not hunting, rather "exploring")? No way in hell. They would've known better. They knew better than to do what they were doing. They knew they would get into trouble if they were even caught with slingshots at the zoo. They absolutely knew better.

i feel sorry for the general populace that has to sift through the daily accumulation of trivial news articles

Since we like to make animals think in terms of our understanding, let me pose a scenario:

You are at home with moms, just chillin, watching TV after just having finished dinner. All of a sudden, some random motherfuckers pull a drive by. Only they're stopped just outside your house, brazen to the law or any other consequences. After all, they have the guns, and you're just an innocent kid in your house with your mom! What do they have to fear?

Just as they're reloading, you find the courage (thanks to a huge rush of adrenaline) to bound out of the house to defend yourself and your beloved mom!! The rest of use are cheering you the fuck on at this point buddy!!! :) You arrive at the car quick as a cat (heh) and pull the first unlucky mother fucker out you are able to get hold of. The other two, frightened at your ability to spring your massiveness into action so god damn quickly, speed off to the end of the block and stop to see what carnage was likely to ensue their poor friend.

You've got this now empty glock totin' skinny bastard by the throat as you proceed to pummell his ugly ass face to a bloody pulp. He dies under your attack, only recognizeable by fingerprints and dental records after you demolish his face.

[I'll stop the story here to pose some questions]

Should you pursue the other two? They did try to kill you after all!
Should you be shot if you do go after them?
Should you be shot for defending yourself and your family?
Should your attackers go free?
Should you or anyone else feel sorry for them??????
Did the bastard you killed deserve anyone's sympathies??????

I, for one (and I'm sure I'm not alone) would be proud of you. I'm sure not a jury in the land would convict you. Bravo Subby!!!

On a much simpler scale, that is how the tiger would see it. Of course, I'm not saying a tiger is capable of understanding any of that to such a degree, but in it's simplest form...this is it.

You would if it it were your child, brother, or sister. And who hasn't driven drunk at least once?

digger said:

If one of my drinking buddies was about to do something so incredibly stupid, I'd take action. I'd try talking them out of said stupid action, in a calm and rational manner. Should that fail to alter their intended course, I'd bring the heat and let them know in no uncertain manner that things are gonna get fucked up if they dont' smarten up. If that still failed to deter said drunken buddy, I'd get physical. It's what I'd expect a buddy to do if I was drunk and on the fringe of doing something stupid.

If you're not a part of the solution, you're a part of the problem. Kinda like countries who chose turn a blind eye to terrorists operating within their borders.

There's a big difference between feeling sorry for someone who got themselves killed and mourning a friend.

I equate it to people who smoke that I know. I'll miss them when they're gone but won't feel sorry in the least when they die of lung cancer.

A mark of maturity to see things that way. Much more mature than some much older than you... I don't mean to put people down for their views here, but evil is evil and to wish that kind of suffering on anyone.... well it's just evil... Not that I haven't been guilty of it a time or 2.

I spent my 20s doing animal rescue. Gives you a real appreciation for the absolute shit people are capable of inflicting upon those they perceive as being helpless. And it's been my observation that people who tease animals will tease other humans and bully those creatures, human and animal, that they perceive as being weaker than themselves.

These morons played a game and received severe retribution, and I feel no sympathy, not for them, not for their families (who should have instilled a deeper sense of ethics and empathy in these boys when they were growing up). Teasing animals is wrong, period, it's a lesson far too few parents teach their children these days. As a parent you're supposed to teach your children from the time they are old enough to understand to respect the natural world, have empathy for the other creatures. You teach them that animals are NOT giant stuffed toys put here for their amusement, but living, feeling beings, and you don't GET these kinds of problems.

Since my point may have been lost, let me put it this way:

If some fools attack me and are shooting at me, and I have nowhere to run so I attack them back...

those motherfuckers are gonna die and I will feel no sorrow when I kill them. I do not think that self defense is stupid "in my eyes".

i guess i dont know the details? were they trying to kill the tiger? were the harrassers the only ones hurt?

or is it like a little kid playing with fire...knows its wrong and dangerous, but doesnt get the full grasp of its power/concequences?

They were all between 17-20 I believe. Old enough to understand. They didn't think there was any danger due to the tigers being in the pen and unable (supposedly) to get out.

I'm sure they weren't trying to "kill" the tiger with a slingshot, but the god damn tiger doesn't understand that! There we go again thinking animals are capable of understanding things even remotely close to human standards/abilities.

The guy who was killed was one of the three who were responsible for tormenting the tigers.

I would have thought my story would've made things a bit clearer...put things from a tiger understanding level/viewpoint, to a human one. Alas, I tried.

I was not surprised that that vicious animal was able to get out of its enclosure as I have been to that zoo on many occassions. My first thought when i saw those tigers was that they could free themselves from those confines easily enough if compelled to do so. If my house cat can jump a six foot fence from a seated position, well, imagine that cat enlarged 50 times it's size and reacting to being hit by an object. Likewise i was at the Indianaplois zoo recently and was struck by how nominal the moat was seperating the big cats from all the onlookers. That's another disaster waiting to happen.
