do you ever think back on your past and

you remember events or just general points in time, and the feelings you had at that time resurface.

for example, i used to be really depressed and anxious all the time, and i was listening to a song that i used to hear about 2 years ago and i remembered general events and stuff i used to do then, and i feel kinda shitty again.

then once my mind goes off it im good,

does that happen to anyone else?

its cool

yeeeesssssssssss. today actually. i just got an ipod as a gift so i got some songs i used to listen to in my single days. i wanna go out and bang whores now. mmmmmmmmmm.......whores

unfortunately yes...I do not live in the past thank goodness but sometimes you think about past experiences and think how stupid you were or how you wish you could do things differently and it does get you down.

Oh yeah! A song or a place, or something someone says, a smell, any of that stuff can trigger those kind of memories. But there are both good and bad memories that come from this. As odd as it sounds, I relish both the good and the bad memories caused by these things because it reminds me of just what I have gone through in my life to get to where I am today.

Yep. It happens to everyone. JUst simple psychological anchoring. You hear a song it takes you back to the feeling you had when you hear it or you see something that automatically brings back a lot of memories. It's just the way the brain remembers. Without that linking of the senses it wouldn't be possible to remember anything.

You know when sometimes all of a sudden for no reason at all a very old memory will just pop into your head? e.g. for no reason at all you'll have an image of a can of beans pop into your head. That's because something ( a sound, a smell, a physical feeling...) that you just experienced happened in exactly the same way as when you were eating that can of beans that you just saw in your head. It happens to me all the time and i often wonder what it was that triggered off that memory.

If you read a book on NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), it can teach you to break these anchors so that if your brain assosciates a song with a bad feeling, you can learn to break that assosciation. The brain's a strange thing.

i think music in and of itself is the most powerful force to "take you back" to a certain place and time...

Yep it probably is. Not many things can make someone as emotional as music can.

yes. songs, smells, sounds, feelings, etc bring back memories..whether bad or good memories you have the choice to sit there and stew upon them or not...obviously some thing painful and hurting is not going to be forgotten but you as the person who was in pain or hurt have a choice of whether you will sit there and continuosly think about it or not...

Songs and smells can take you back several years and you can remember it just like it happened yesterday. I still remember my first gf sometimes. She broke my heart and i never really got over it.

Yes. It took almost 10 years for me to be able to listen to certain songs that came out when I was in high school. There are some restaurants (fast food; franchise places) that I will no longer eat at.

KORN "Issues" got me over the hump...i suggest it. ;)

It takes be back, but I don't get bummed about it anymore. Most of the time, I just like the song and think..."WHEW!" Dodged a bullet there.

You have two choices when it comes to your past.

Learn from it and grow from your experiences. That doesn't mean you have to forget the memories, just don't let them rule your future.

or

Live in the past. Spend your time hoping that things will return to the way they were.

The one choice you don't have is to change the past.

My friends and I also got arrested while listening to DMX. That song is now on a Cadillac commercial.
