Do you ever stop to think....

What the hell am I doing this for? More recently than in the past I have been struggling with my own goals. I have been asking myself a lot "can I even make it?" In truth I don't think that there really is an "it" to make it to.

I know this is probably a rethorical question but do you think your goals, image wise, are ever possible? Or do they change so quickly that what you once wanted is nothing near what you now expect of yourself and strive for?

I personally struggle with this all the time. It blows, I hate it and love it all at the same time. You get this burning desire to be something better than what you are but you know that at a base level all you are is what you are today. I personally live for tomorrow and strive to be a better me every day, but I am still what I am today.

Talk about a twisted thought processes!

All I can tell you is to set legitimate goals for yourself that you know you can feasibly obtain. Don't think of BB or whatever your talking about as a chore, but as a lifestyle because that's what it is. Eventually all the things will fall into place. Who cares about what your image is in the eyes of other people. I do this for myself, my body, and no one else... if anyone wants to criticize my lifestyle they can fuck off, eat a Big Mac, and live their own American dream.

You can't change what has or will happen, so just enjoy today. Set realistic goals for yourself and if you are unable to fulfill them ... no big deal. Life is all about trying. The successes will give you a great feeling but the trying along the way builds character. It is this character which enables us to see ourselves for who we really are. It also gives you the opportunity to understand what is important in life and when you do get to that point ... and you will ... you will realise that 'image' is way down on the list.

*That is about as deep as I can get on a Diet Forum. :)

Amen to both of those answers! I've got an overall goal of a lean 250 at 6' tall. Right now I'm at a not-so-lean 225. But I set little 'in between' goals all of the time. Keep focused on the little goals (as well as the big one) and strive towards them. If you're really worried about what others think of you, then you've got bigger problems than achieving your goals. Others don't matter (unless it's your wife/girlfriend). Trying to please everyone will drive us more nuts than we already are. Do this for you and no one else.
Bbing or just lifting for health reasons is like a religion and a way of life. When you meet some one so wrapped up in their religion or their way of life, they talk to you about it (can be annoying), but my point is, if bbing or just being healthy is really your way of life, then no matter how you look, if you're happy, then it doesn't matter and it's not a chore. It is so natural that if you DON'T lift and eat healthy foods, you feel weird.

How are your workouts going? If you are tired, overtrained, and not getting results, that can get depressing, maybe try taking it easy for a week. But don't stop, keep going to the gym. Its often a matter of inertia, objects in motion, stay in motion... If you stop, starting is harder. Has always been for me. If this is the problem, when you get back into it, try another routine. Set up something you can follow for a number of weeks. Like 5x5. From waht I've read of other peoples success, this may be the jumpstart you need. What are your goals? Do you have them written down? If not, do so. Set small goals and long term ones. Make a plan to reach them step by step. Read it outloud twice daily. As soon as you get up, and when you go to bed. So you are thinking about how they WILL happen as you start your day, and as you fall asleep.
Example:
Long term-
I want to gain 15 pounds of lean muscle this year.
Short term-
I want to add 5 pounds of muscle in the next 12 weeks
The plan-
I will follow (your workout routine) for 6 weeks, using a food journal, I will KNOW what what I need to eat to achieve my goals. I will then diet down to show my new muscle, again, using my food journal so I KNOW what I need to eat.

Something along those lines. You make a deal with yourself. You are doing all this for yourself, so if you skip, cheat, don't give all that you can, you will know. This is one of the best ways to get to know who you are and what you are made of. To be truely tested when things get rough. Like Kian said, it builds character. The more of it you have the easier the tough times are to handle.

Hope this helps

ii know what your talking about...when i look at myself in a picture or something i think im too big for my height to a certain extent but when i look in the mirror i feel tiny.

the way i get around this though is by focusing on how much i love the actual act of lifting and thats why i keep doing it
