I try to buy American if I have the choice. I did buy a Lexus but that's about the only thing I really have bought big that isn't American

The whole point of this thread was to tell us you drive a Lexus isn't it?

??????

What do you buy that is american?

What have you picked up that was not, and set down and replaced with an american item?

I've driven Chevy's all before. Why do you think the Asian car market is booming yet american is plummeting? Them asians stick together, american's don't give a shit

I try to buy American. ITs hard to. Not much american made products. I do buy American cars tho.

Dodge has some kind of a lifetime warranty, not sure what that covers ?

It's because they make a better product for a better value.

Not that I don't care about my own peeps, ya'll my niggas - but the truth is the truth.

Outside of cars - not sure where you can apply that you have a choice between an american product vs. an import....

Maybe beer.... lol....

I think that there are some vacuum cleaners still made in the US. lol.

Isn't this sorta America's fault.... subbing out there work to those foreign bastards for cheaper labor? Is there ANYTHING that is truly "made in America" anymore?

I buy the best quality for the money that I am willing to spend = best value. I could care less where it is made.

clothing, appliances, children toys, shit like that

Forty-percent of the world is in recession. New records have been set for both personal and corporate bankruptcies. America's trade deficit continues to escalate to historic levels. The savings rate has turned negative, as the average consumer spends $1.10 for every dollar they earn.

I try to buy American. It is becoming more difficult these days. Everything is being made in China.

don't buy your kids toys from china :worried:

Honestly, I dont bother to see where a product is made. If I like it and it suits my pocket book then that is what I buy.

Corporate America sure doesn't give a shit about me, so I am not breaking my neck to care about it...

Everyone for themselves... isn't THAT the truest American ideal?

Those of us who live in the US and plan on staying for a while should care.

bmom we know you dont want to stay in the us, so you dont care, which is fine too. but the rest of us should care about our country.

It isn't that I don't care. I care VERY MUCH, but I am also not foolish enough to buy a lesser quality product or one that is more expensive then what I want to spend out of some sense of patriotism <---- this makes no sense to me. I wouldn't buy a Magyar product unless it was superior in quality or of an acceptable quality for the amount of money I want to spend.

This *buy American* campaign is merely propoganda perpetrated on the working class so that big business can take your money then outsource to cheaper labor - ie China, Mexico, India, etc... Trust me when I tell you that peeps with money to burn could give a shit about where the product they buy is made as long as it is acceptable quality to them and also at the price they are willing to spend. If they earned that money, they will hold onto it just as tightly as you and I.

Who wins?

EVERYONE shoud be a smart consumer as in the end this will benefit THEM.

I dont think its foolish to purchase American made products if you can. Lesser quality? I think sometimes thats what people say to themselves to make themselves feel better for spending less on foreign products.

Yeah, you are right it IS a better value because their workers are cheaper.

Fitness equipment. All the quality stuff is made in the US and the junk comes from overseas. Even stuff from the same manufacturer. Take Precor for example, you have a handful of models made overseas and range from $2,000-$3,000. Then you have the quality ones made here in the US and can run $4,000-$5,000. Same goes for Life Fitness, True Fitness, etc. About the only one that has 100% of their products made in the US is Landice out of NJ.

People who want to live in America had better care! Our economy is tanking because of it!

American car quality being bad is a myth, American car quality is #1 in all Big 3 plants. In order for any American Car Plant to get new product it must have a Q1 Flag and also be ISO9000 along with many plant having there GE Power. So maybe back in the day this was a issue but American cars have great quality. To tell you the truth foreign cars are lacking because the foreign industry is getting way to big, did you know the number of call back on all the foreign cars made now it is hight as hell....

Bottom line for me is best value for the money. I honestly dont care where that product is made.

Cheaper = worse quality, that is NOT a good value. Often times you get what you pay for. I dont mind paying more if it is a better value. Sadly, where a product is made isn't necessarily indicative of it's quality. That goes for *made in the US* too.

Unless one of you is for sale, I do not buy American for personal use.
For work, I buy American 95% of the time, b/c there is no alternative.

Aside from cars, everything else is made overseas. Buying a Lexus just eliminated, most likely, your only opportunity to buy something made in the USA.

I don't know who brainwashed Americans to think that our products were so expensive and lesser quality. :whatever: We made great stuff and at good prices. It is the foreign crap that is shitty now. Look at all the problems we have had this year with foreign foods, dog foods, kids toys, toothpaste, mouthwash, etc. We are buying SHIT now and the savings have not been passed on to us.

My fleet of worktrucks are Dodge's
but they are made in a plant in mexico...so does that mean no?

I think the problem with american cars is in the engineering, not the assembly. Just look at honda/toyotas reliablity ratings vs ford/chevy.

American? Not really. My car is a Subie made in Indiana. TV, ipod, most appliances, most clothes are made elsewhere. It's hard to avoid. I try to buy local whenever I do my food shopping. I hit the farmers' market every saturday for my produce, lamb, and whatever else looks good. I'd rather see local farmers and craftsmen make the money than some big faceless company.

I work in construction in Chicago - a HUGE union town. Buying american and union is very important around here and because the world economy is the way it is, I argue with people all the damn time. For instance - I want to buy a Toyota Camry Hybrid. A car that is completely built right here in the USA. However, the profits go to Tokyo - so let the arguments commence. I'll just have to park my car offsite because we all know that "accidents" can happen.

I'm pretty sure most of the food that goes down my gullet is American-made. Except for the out-of-season fruit.

I just looked, and my shorts were made in Cambodia. The tshirt was made in Honduras. Wristwatch made in Switzerland. Most of the bits in and on my computer appear to be Chinese or Korean.

Local ingredients will ALWAYS be better/fresher.

I'm sure there are some but I highly doubt they are "in"

Real wages for working Americans have plummeted 19% since 1972 - about the same time we entered into a so-called "global economy."

General Motors spent $5.4 billion last year in health care for Americans that Toyota didn't have to worry about .

I had a Ford Windstar that was a POS from the time I bought it brand spankin new. My family has always had foreign cars (Honda, Toyota, Mazda) and has had nothing but good experiences. Even my Jaguar has been uncharacteristically reliable! lmfao

Now as for motorcycles, that is a horse of another color. My Old Grump and I don't ride/buy nuthin but Harley Davidson. My God is that orange and black logo ugly, but in this regard Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Triumph... don't matter. Harley Davidson or stay home. He's an old school biker who bought his first ride before I was even born. Me, I am just a bikerchick wannabee by association but after riding on the back of our Harley and traveling around a bit, I understand the fierce pride exhibited by Harley owners.

when those faceless, money grubbing, companies are making money the economy is boasting which in turn makes investors (a good majority of people) money as well

Anyone else find it comical that some Ford vehicles made not too long ago (90's) had odometers that only went to 99,000 miles? Clearly even they don't have faith in their own vehicles. lol

lol the 90s was a long time ago.. 15 years ago is a long time ago

Harleys are a joke.

Two Harley owners were riding through the back woods two lanes when they came across a sheep with it's head stuck in a fence. The first Harley owner pulls his chopper over, parks it, gets off, walks up to the sheep, pulls down his pants & does the sheep to the tune of a lot of grunting and bleating.

Then he turns to his buddy and said, "Ok it's your turn now."

So his buddy sticks his head in the fence.

Yeah, you are right it IS a better value because their workers are cheaper.

If you have ever been in a Walmart then you should be ashamed of yourself!

They make billions selling products they have made because of their buying power. (not one product is made in the USA)

Both cheaper labor (wally world employees) and products made almost everyplace else than the US.

I only want to have one thing of which I can be the sole source. Those little round gold stickers that say " MADE IN CHINA"

We have outsourced all our service work (Call Countrywide Mortgage the nations largest loan servicer) You speak to a guy named BEN, his real name is Ashok Advani or Ragshish Patel... Try to speak to a customer service rep for NETGEAR, same thing..

We have sent our manufacturing to China and Taiwain, the shipping doesn't even make a dent in the profit margin of the people that supply 90% of everything you have in your house.

We were once a great Country making great products, now we are a hoggish, greedy consumer of anything and everything to Buy that Polo Shirt, which is made in India, Thailand or the Philippines. Bill Blass made in India or The Disney Shirt with the cute Mickey Mouse or Tigger made in Hong Kong. CK, made in Bangladesh.

I have lived in many places, none so ethnocentric with no reason as the US.

Guess we just have no idea that we think we are buyin American from Americans but are made in places that pay their employees cents a day. The Corporate Office is in NY.....

Imagine if Chevy dealers still sold 1955 Bel Airs...

Saw one today that has 3 of em in the showroom, had to stop, one had 12,000 miles....

Cost more than a Viper and it only goes as fast as a 1955 Bel Air. But it did have a pair of dice hanging from the mirror.

Is that even possible? I tried to buy a pair of boot and wanted Made in America. NOTHING in the store was made in America.

Caterpiller boots - Made in China
Timberlands - Made in China
Doc Martins - Made in China (I know they are an English company)

I bitched and complained to the staff and manager and left. Came back after several hours of looking else where and bought a pair of chinese made 'American' boots.

Not true. I know people who've done business with Wallyworld. Of course they will screw you over and try to force the profit out of your product, but they buy shirts printed right here in the USA.

I'll also add - one of the reasons I like living in Europe is that these folks still do their own manufacturing. It's possible to buy an Italian made vacuum cleaner, a French made washer, a Ukranian made shirt, etc.

Also, did you all know that Germany is the world's number one export country? They export more stuff (dollar wise) than even China. The Germans also have some of the worlds highest hourly wages ........ but yet they still manage to make and sell. MMMM.... I thought we were told that is impossible?? I think we were lied to.

Walmart is the worst, I know that. I also dont shop at walmart btw - but I know Target is not any better. lol.

American's attempts to buy American are futile, but that does not mean we should accept things the way they are either. Or try to buy American when we can!

OK so how much trouble is justified to find a shirt that is *made in America*?
