Do prisoners actually receive "rehabilitation"?

Freak Show

I can't imagine it's that much. I think the stats show if you go in once, you'll be back (could be wrong). Its just that you never hear about programs or therapy used to try to help these people reform their lives. Isn't that what they should be doing, so these people never go back? How is rotting in jail going to help? Not saying some don't deserve to be there, but there should be an attempt to make them productive members of society. Anyway, maybe some of our members who have worked in/visited the prison system can explain what goes on better.

all i care about is that they are kept away from me. they were given the same chances as anyone else and they fucked up once. its up to them to fix themselves if they ever get out. prisons should look to be as cost effective as possible and not worry about rehab.

Man, when will the whiney liberals learn? Rehabilitation = you broke your leg and they're teaching you to walk again, not "you raped then killed somebody but now you're all better... the bad voices are quiet now." The only rehabilitation a murderer or rapist deserves is at the end of a sword.

they need to fire up the electric chair more often. they should allow the guards to beat the inmates.

do you realize i pay $25.00 every month to work out. they get weights for free everyday.

they do get the chance for reform programs. most dont take it.

Some people just never learn. No matter how much you try to "reform" a murderer of a rapist, you`ll most likely have little or no impact on them. It`s hard to help somebody who doesn`t even want to help themselves. I would provide rehabilitation type services for those who want to try to turn thier life around for the better.

Punishment has failed to be an effective method in dealing with crime.
Everthing else we have tried has failed. Most criminals are stoburn fools and there is nothing more you can do for them other than lock them up.

Of course not. Instead, he just put the public and the victim's families through hell while waiting for him to go to the death chamber.....

McVeigh got more out of the circus created by receiving the dealth penalty than he would have had he just been thrown behind bars for the rest of his miserable life.
