There is a stereotype, and it manifests itself on this board all the time. It’s the one that Americans are insular and don’t understand, appreciate or perhaps even care about the rest of the world. Of course, the majority disprove this, however, there are always those that pop up who fall right into this category…
Examples from this board like “Where is the sports capital of the world” and “Where would you like to live” seem to draw the standard list of American cities from the majority of US guys, whereas people from other parts of the globe seem more likely to look further a field. I don’t think it is about patriotism either. You can love your country, and be prepared to die for it if need be, whilst appreciating and understanding other places and cultures in the world, most of which existed many thousands of years before the US as we know it was even created.
