Do I need to lose weight before bulking?

Hi guys,

I want to lose weight and then bulk up so that I can be nice and rock hard and decently cut and in shape.

I am currently 5'10" 254 lbs. Very Broad build. I want to get down to about 205 lbs or so, but be in shape, with decent muscle mass.

I spoke with a friend and he suggested that I "Run like a madman" in regards to jogging at least 1-2 miles every morning, at a minimum. That I should do this until I am at about 205 lbs or so. Of course he also recommend avoiding sugars altogether, drinking 10-12, 8oz glasses of water a day, and cut my calories. HE also suggested taking those multi-vitamin packs daily (those 5 pill packets).

So, is this true? or should I take another course of action? Also, I don't know how to start a jogging plan. Can someone provide me some tips on how to start a jogging regiment? Do I stretch hardcore beforehand? Do I eat? or drink a lot of water? Any tips on how to breath? how to run? swing arms, etc?

Any advice would help. Thanks!
 
running isn't the first thing you should be looking at its something to add to help cut down. First start dieting, and eating healthier.

Find out what you LBM is and multiply that by 12. That number will give you your total calorie intake for the day, for a starters.

Up your water intake to at least 1 gallon a day.

Also you want to cut down and then bulk up to be cut up and in shape?? If your going to bulk back up, your not going to be cut. If your going to bulk, you will be adding on some fat.

I suggest using that little search button and start reading and go from there.
 
I'm quite the amateur in regards to fitness, health, and dieting. So I tried using the Search feature, but honestly, I didn't know what to look for. :( Could you give me a list of items to search for? I want to know how to eat healthy to lose weight, what to eat, how to lose weight, and eventually get buff. But I want to ultimately be pretty cut, buff, and about 215-235 lbs.

Help? :)
 
Bro....you gotta diet and do cardio and eat clean as shit to get to a more manageable weight/body fat%. Then think about AS! Just my humble opinion! Good Luck!

Thanks for the advice. BTW, what is AS? I really want to lose weight and eventually work out to bulk a little. More then anything, I need to figure out how to eat right and work out to lose weight. I want to get down to 205-215. Then start toning up pretty decently from there, maybe being slightly cut.
 
start looking through the 'diet discussion board'

search for 'diet' or anything along that topic.

i suggest picking up some type of a fitness magazine or bodybuilding book which can help you out too.

so start reading through threads and stop waiting for someone to sit here and type out a 20page response on what you need to do.

There are many ways to go about losing weight properly, so you might even have to experiment with different diets.

Remember to keep a high intensity when training.


quick tips for food:
Try to avoid all chips, candy, ice cream, sweets, anything of that sort.
Cut your portion sizes down for your meals and eat 5-6 meals a day instead of 2-3 big ones.
Eat at least 1g of protein per lb of body weight.
Eat low fat for starters unless you try other types of diets.
Reduce Carbs, and stay away from simple sugars.
And you can add some cardio 30-45min 4-5x's a week.
 
More mass "eats" more cals. I found it better to drop a few after I had more mass and had been training for a while. Also when bulking you may add a few "unwanted" pounds, may as well drop all at the same time and spare as much good mass as possible.
 
I definately agree with those who say to hold off on the roids until you are leaner. Lots of cardio, drink lots of water, and a good ephedrine/caffeine/asprin/yohimbe fat burner are what you need for now. But for God's sake, DO NOT go jogging!!! At 250+ pounds, running is not a good choice for your cardio...the impact on your knees would be hellacious! Opt for more joint-friendly forms of cardio like using an elliptical trainer, swimming, inline skating, cycling ect. I recently had a long idle period due to a banged-up knee (which, by the way, was caused in no small part by running 10k every day one summer to cut up when I was 220) that saw me balloon up to a pretty chunky 255...but I've taken it down to a decent 230 already just by doing a good fat-burning supplement and eating higher protein/low carbs. You'll drop the fat faster than you think as long as you're smart about it. Good luck!
 
IMO, if your looking to get fit, you need to learn to eat right and faithfully practice a regime of weight training and cardio - running, biking, etc.

Stay away from any and all drugs untill you reach your goal getting fit.

To begin with, do not try any type of "fad" or "special" diet. Lean to eat a real balaced diet while lowering your calories as you lose weight. PM me if you want more detail.

Vitamins and minerals should be your number one staple supplement. And yes, drink lots of water.
