For an infected hang nail? I fucking hate going to the Dr and I there is something I can put on it to cure it up with out a trip to one that would be fanfuckingtastic.
Do I have to go to the Dr.

I don't have a clue if there is anything that you can put on it but I am sure it hurts like hell!!!!!!

When I get them, I take a paperclip and light a match to it to sterilize it. Then take the U part of the paperclip and pull the cuticle back and press. Works like a charm for me and it does hurt for a little while but taking the pressure off it eases off the heartbeat in it. Then I put some alcohol in a pill (medicine) cup and hold my finger in there for about 30 seconds.

I'd soak in alcohol, then pierce it with a needle (sterile, of course...a slin pin or needle used for IM injects works nicely if you happen to know sick people that require such things). Apply some gentle pressure to the area til pus oozes out, then repeat the alcohol. Top off with neosporin.
If it doesn't fill back up, and the area loses that angry red colour, then you're ok. If it fills right back up with pus, then go to the doc.

theres no real way of telling what to do without looking at it. generally though, in a young, fit woman in your general condition, unless its gone fully necrotic and nasty, theres no need for a doctor just yet, since all you really have to do is clean it properly so taht it can heal.
if you do decide to go the self surgery/self draining route, simple steps are:
clean everything before you start, including your hands, under fingernails, and all utensils, with at least soap and water, and then perhaps something dehydrating (like methylated spirits)
if you decide to drain it, soften the skin around the area using warm water in disinfectant. softening the skin makes getting to the pustule a lot easier, with far less damage to surrounding tissues. in most cases, merely softening the skin and applying a little pressure is enough to get the pus/debris moving. most people use a pin.
before and after actual piercing, cover teh area in povodine iodine (usually sold as betadine). it doesnt sting at all, and kills everything around there.
and use decent bandages afterwards, they make all the difference.

I went to the Dr. this afternoon he did all the messy stuff so gross.
