Do anti-depressants have any effect on you cycle??

No matter what you take MAKE SURE you take an appropriate dose.If you take too little nothing really gets worked out. Then when you take too much, well you may develop a drooling problem and have to wear a helmet with your name on it.lol..I would personally say lexapro or paxil cr.

I have done some research into this in the past. The literature suggests that most SSRIs have the propensity to increase cortisol levels within the body. This is obviosuly not good for those of us wanting to put on muscle as cortisol is catabolic. This fits in nicely with some of the replies above suggesting SSRIs may make you gain fat. It appears that cortisol may be one of the factors contributing to this fat gain. The only anti-depressant that has the opposite effect in actually reducing cortisol is Remeron by Organon. There are a number of papers published on the net with evidence-based research to support this (do a search on "Remeron cortisol"). I take it during my PCT and swear that it works fairly well as an anti-catabolic.

How does 5-htp compare to all of these?

It really doesn't. They have two completely different actions. SSRI's block the reuptake of certain seritonin to their transmitters. I believe 5-htp is just a pre-cursor amino acid to seritonin. Not much evidence it aliviates depression either. Try some GHB :)

I would imagine coritosl issues during a cycle would be abolished by AAS usage; SSRI's after prolonged usage have been demonstrated to increase prolacting levels, plus, the increase in 5-ht transcription has very negative effect on endurance and general fatigue onset - in trials athletes continuously administered with SSRI's performed for shorter bursts and had a more rapid mental>physical exhaustion effect.

Trade-off though - SSRI's have been designed to remedy mental issues of depression, social/generalized anxiety, OCD plus on top of that they upregulate BDNF-gene - body neural integrity regulator which should attenuate neural degradation due to age, stresses/oxidation, illnesses.

Find another anti-depressant, if you like - there are many alternatives - bupropion (resembles methylphenidates), provigil/amps(alleviating depression via increased locomotor, focus, motivation activity), etc..

i took zoloft for a good few (maybe more) years... during this time i also took eca stack daily and i was ripped.... i wasnt even training regularly but i had veins in my stomach when flexed! (i'm not a naturally "skinny" guy at all)... zoloft worked good, made me happy and upbeat and positive, but when i did get mad (while on it), i REALLY got mad.. usually booze involved though..

switched to paxil because i would lose the odd erection and it pissed me off.. i hated paxil... cant say much about it, i just didnt like the way i felt on it.. i felt like i was losing alot of muscle, zoloft never made me feel like that, if anything i felt pumped on zoloft most of the time..

went back to zoloft...

then my doctor told me about remeron, i took that shit for a year or so and it was good... but it made me tired... like, i couldnt wake up in the morning tired.. i took it before bed and new i had to take it atleast 10 hours before i had to get up or i wouldnt be able to get up... quit taking it for that reason, didnt want to spend the summer at home and popping my remeron every night by 8 or 9:00....

doctor in the health store told me about 5-htp and l-tyrosine because i told him i wanted to quit smoking... i quit, and i still take both on and off... 5-htp rocks in my opinion... if i get moody or down feeling i take that shit and within a week i feel good... i always recommend it to people who ask me about a.d.'s..

good luck, feel better please :)

I am currently using Efexor Venlafaxine to treat long term depression (from experimenting with too much E's, weed, Diazepam's & amphetamine's as a teen) & it works great. It even stops me feeling shitty when i'm off cycle. But the withdrawal's from missing a days dosage are pretty intense, I tend to lose my balance a lot & have head rushes from drinking cold drinks, 'wierd stuff'.
