I want to try an anti-depressant..and would like your oipnions on which is the best one for a male bodybuilder. Which one has the least side effects??? I heard LexaPro is good. I would like to not have any associated erection problems....Any opinions would be greatly appreciated...

Depends bro, people are different.
My shrink is a moron, she says the psychiatry field is a trial and error business. So she pretty much subscribed different shit. The one I liked the most so far, and I stopped taking all others, is provigil. Its not really an anti depressant although some doctor's use it as so. It is used for ADD and I have since gone off because Ive been feeling great lately, but when I was really depressed( it happens to me every few months ), it worked really well for me.

The stupid bitch said wellbutrin has no sexual side effects which was bullshit, I couldnt keep an erection with that shit for the life of me. Definately stay away from celexa, Zoloft, and Paxil, they claim they are the best, but I had the most side effects with these. And definately stay away from Benzo's, unless you want to become a junkie. Cigarrettes are the only thing more addictive than benzos for me etc...

If you want to stop taking them at some point, stay away from Paxil, Celexa, and especially Effexor. Horrible withdrawal effects for some people. There may be others, these are the ones a friend of mine had trouble with.

I tried five or six anti-d's until I found paxil, which, to my mind, saved my life. Been on it for six years or so, have gradually been able to reduce the dose to the point where I experience no sides.

I don't believe in the use of anti-d's for depression that is situational, rather than physiological. If yours is the former, I'd recommend a good therapist or, if you prefer, I can refer you to some great books. Feel better.

Generally, if body-recomp is your goal stay away from SSRI's, espesially highly selective ones like Lexapro, Zoloft.

i was on lexapro for attention deficit. It works great but man, I puff up like the state puff marshmellow man and I hate it. I get wood and all..but man..FATPRO is what i call it!

Most anti-depressants (SSRIs, SNRIs, and MAOIs - tried them all) can cause some people to gain weight (fat storage). I've noticed that the weight gain is also resistant to exercises and dieting (short of starvation). This side-effect (which there are MANY) can make a depressive person even more depressed. I think doctors give it out like candy and they are too heavily marketed.

I use Lexapro and I have no problems with erections.

Erections aren't as big as a problem with SSRIs as anorgasmia is. I know what you're thinking - " I can go for hours! I'm a monster! " but when you can't orgasm for hours it becomes frustrating (for everyone invovled). Decreased libido is also a common side-effect. When I was on ADs sex was a disgusting thought. Condsider yourself lucky.
