I think it is a primal feature of humans to enjoy 'altered states of consciousness'.
All cultures around the world, through the ages have had ways to get high/wasted/stoned. Peyote, mead, 'shrooms, ganja and all kinds of other substances have been used for us to get high/stoned. Every weekend bars, clubs and homes around the world are filled with people getting drunk.
The desire seems to be intrinsic to human nature.
Have there ever been any studies on animals?
And I dont mean animals that are forced into an addiction, but ones that are given a choice. Like if they push button 'A' they get a little does of heroin or alchohol or something.
